I have witnessed people get unbanned for karmas quite frequently. Some notable examples are people like @dazza @LT.Kitty-Kat and most notable was @Muffin .

"I agree that this isn't right and that we should be setting a precedent that trial moderators and staff members are players to. We shouldn't be giving discretion in situations where the person is in a position of power."

Let's keep the rules consistent and not allow discretion in scenarios like these.

With that being said, how about changing that stupid rule and allowing karma unbans in situations where warranted.

You are not correct in saying that neither you or any admin have authority to overrule this rule. As stated above, I've seen it done and and noted the examples.

We do not normally unban people for karma bans. Admins definitely can, but the process is not encouraged. I am not sure what you mean by quoting me. I don't really know anything about those people you mentioned getting unbanned from their karma bans, and honestly I probably would have said no to unbanning them in the first place. Thanks for reporting but Lordy did not do anything wrong here.
