This was before the claim went from the top of the map to the bottom.
Doing this just because you are bored isn't really a good excuse imo but alas pvp is apart of the game. That being said, pick on someone your own size, not a newbie and another player helping out said newbie. Honestly it will only drive away new players from the server if all the are greeted with are dicks who kill the new guys/nice guys repeatedly just for the hell of it. I totally get the frustration of having a broken economy where you have it all and have nothing else you can really do, but what you are doing is only going to harm the community in the long run and if you want to see it prosper, have new updates implemented to fix the broken things so you can have things to do again, that won't really happen if you don't have a player base that is self sufficient and can provide for the server in the first place. Which is exactly what this toxic gameplay is going to prevent; the growth of the population.
I'm not too sure how much this was touched on as the thread kinda got derailed and I'm too tired to bother sifting through the messages, but, in regards to staff from other servers having to "play nice" etc on the MC server; It is a staff requirement that, once in a position in the community where they are the face of it, they are not to go about and grief on other servers. Might I note that this is other servers that have nothing to do with SGMod. I think it would only then be expected that a staff member of a different server in this community would be expected to uphold a somewhat friendly face whilst perusing the other servers. Irrespective of what denomination a staff member comes from they are the face of this community as a whole. Serious GMod, Serious TTT or Serious DR, it is all part of the Serious Community and thus should be treated as such. Just because you are just STTT staff playing on minecraft in your spare time doesn't mean you can use that as an excuse to carry out somewhat toxic behaviour just because "pvp is an integral part of the game". As I said earlier, pick on someone your own size. You are staff members of the community, here to lend a helping hand regardless of what game mode you come from.
Probably won't mean much coming from me as I don't play minecraft let alone own it but that is what it looks like from my position as an outsider. And of course things like "picking people on your own size" will be completely subjective because not everyone thinks the same but honestly as a general statement, just don't be an ass as a staff member of this community. It's pretty much one of the very first things that you are told and asked not to do outside of this community. I am pretty sure it is just common sense to realise that includes in our own community as well.
Anyways, just my two cents ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
The minecraft PvP system rewards people who take fights they know they can't lose. It's almost entirely based on gear instead of skill (except some archery), and this encourages players to go for the weak instead of any sort of fair contest. Regardless of how much of a part of the game PvP is, being killed in MC isn't fun, and if someone's first experience on the server is 3 people in enchanted diamond armor teaming up on them for their head they probably won't be back. There's a PvP arena on the server, but you still see so many of the people with the best gear hunting on the survival area instead of going for fair game in the arena.
PvP in MC isn't an inherently bad part of the game IMO, but there needs to be some checks to protect newer players. One solution could be with the PvP in claims problem. If it's possible to allow people to enable/disable PvP in their own claims (with enabling allowing them to PvP in other enabled claims), players who don't have good gear/want to be peaceful aren't bullied by people with more cash than they can use.
I just hate to see people that kill anyone like its hunger ganes or smth. I was flying with my Elytra yesterday and I found many homes around mine, and I didnt plan to raid them, I just approached them and in two occasions saw some friendly faces from the forums. 1 of them was friendly , just sayin hello to me and doing his thing, and the other one attacked me, even though I landed outside his territory/claim and I had no hostile intentions. People are just really scared because of people like Kasta, Butters, Giraffe, and Popstar. And im not saying they are not in their rights to raid and kill, but that sacrifices the chance of players being friendly and working together most of the time. I consider myself a friendly player, but ive been betrayed by people ive helped 2 times already, so that makes me be not so friendly anymore. Its just a really hostile place right now and I dont like it that way. I wanted a place where all of us could co-exist and help each other, but people just dont care and want to do their own thing.
Let me ask this, had there not been a way to buy Premium Keys (beating a near death horse here) but just the simple reward and voting keys, would either of you be at this point?
Even starting out with Diamond Gear from a kit because of a donation rank gives you a good jump ahead.
You and others say PvP is just a part of the game and only natural. So is exploring. We all have the same amount of luck when it comes to finding temples and shafts, the same applies to what you find in the chests.
The fact that "the weak should fear the strong" is their motto is scummy in itself IMO.
I agree, things shouldn't be like this. But we can't really stop people from being dicks if that's how they want to play with how the rules are right now. We all need to think of suggestions on how to fix it instead of just pointing out that it's bad- I feel like everyone that's being victimized feels that it's bad so it's kinda self explanatory. The only thing we can currently do is attempt to protect ourselves the best we can, don't go outside except with minimal stuff and hope for the best unfortunately.
The only reason you guys are "the strong" and we are " the weak" is because you have money that you can spend on a game and we dont. You guys had not just a massive head start, but you take any chance to raid and kill friendly players. You are the mob of the server, and if you are proud of that, thats your problem.
It's toxic but there is no endgame here, there is no point in playing right now if you want to do anything. And this is just driving the crowds away more.
And I dont want to hate on anybody, most of you are cool guys who ive talked with and you seem friendly people, but what you do on the server is wrong and makes it unplayable for anyone other than yourselves (the situation being you raid and kill friendly players who just wanna build stuff). PVP is essential, but thats not PVP, thats tryhard tagteaming. You guys storm on players all together with enchanted stuff like its war. Again, not saying you guys are bad people for doing that, and I know its not against the rules, but you gotta admit ITS A DICK MOVE.
This is why I want to build up the clan im in, because it gives unity and friendship a boost in a hostile enviroment. But you cant even trust your clan members really. ATM, you cant trust anybody.
As a new MC player myself, I can understand the feeling of defeat when someone comes up and molly womps you. However I know that MC is a PVP survival game.
This may come from my experience with other survival games like Rust where you can lose everything in an instant, even your base. But I disagree with a lot of this completely.
In every PVP game its always the PVP's vs the Friendlies. This isn't the first time I've heard this argument. So I just want to express how I feel about some of this.
If I'm not mistaken we still have creative mode, which I don't believe creative mode has many people joining it and is under utilized. To me Creative mode should be the PVE side of MC where people who just want to build and play without the threat of another player are free to mine and set up there peaceful colonies of building.
Survival is for those who want to Survive and feel the heart palpitations as your trying to set up your new base, or farm at night. Or to marvel at a new base and feel the anticipation as you creep up, unsure if they'll let you have a tour. Only to battle and tp back as war buddies or to start a feud, that only fuels you to do greater things in game. This is the fun of pvp to me. The excitement and the uncertainty of it.
Now as for Staff who want to part take in PVP how is this cruel, or a bad representation. How is this different then killing you in TTT. Or were to find you in Rust and demolish your base. Or hold you captive in Ark.
If they aren't harassing you or breaking rules. Being a pvp player is not frowned upon or distasteful.
Ey Falcor. Creative mode is locked behind a 30 vote requirement or a donation barrier right now. Something that totally should be changed.
I agree that
I get that its supposed to be PVP in a way, but right now theres just a gang of terror goin around, and thats not ok.
I love PVP in to a certain point, but when I have to be scared for my life and reject people who I like on the forums and ive talked wih a lot, just because I might get fucked for being nice, thats not cool. All im saying ks they shouldnt raid ANYBODY in their path, and try to be a bit more friendly, because what they are saying is that the game becomes boring and that the only way to have fun, but it takes the fun away from the game for others. Just like rdm in ttt, you can have fun rdming cuz you got bored, but you ruin the game for other.
Claim your area to create safe spaces.
People still make up plans to get in and kill you to take your stuff. Thats what Lone said in the first post of the thread.
Yes on a survival build that looks absolutely amazing, I'm gonna put iron doors down with pressure plates so I can not die to some assholes that are probably greifing my west wing of the castle replica I'm building cause I had to wait for claim blocks and couldn't claim my build.
TTT only have the point that Ts is trying to kill others and Ds and innos to find them and not die.
MC isn't made purely for PVP
You guys are lucky TNT isn't a thing because, oh boy, would there be an uproar with you people.
Since creative mode is being brought up, I will say- I did try to start out on creative so I wouldn't have to worry about PvP, but having everything there without any work is really boring. I like the fact I have to search for and collect the things I will be building with and am limited by my current resources. Creative is PvE but it's not the fun kind unless you are strictly someone that wants everything available without having to work for it.
