This is a suggestion I've been wanting to make, but I just haven't gotten around to it. But thanks to the giveaway of @Roy, I have an excuse.

So, I want to reduce the Grace Period rule from 5 seconds down to 3 seconds. For those of you who do not know, this is what the current rule states:

As a staff member, I've noticed that grace period kills almost always happen within 1-2 seconds of the traitors body being IDd. It occasionally happens 4-5 seconds after, but every single time I've seen it happen in that timeframe, it's either a toxic kill or someone who has no idea what's going on. The people the rule is meant to protect is those who didn't see that the body was a T right away, and in the confusion, killed an inno. I think this is a great rule. However, when people just aren't paying attention to the game at all, and 5 seconds after a body is IDd decides to gun someone down, it really just feels terrible for the player who was killed, and me, knowing I can't slay for it.

I believe that if it was down to 3 seconds, most of these situations would be avoided. And in a fast paced game like TTT, I strongly believe 3 seconds is more than enough for the rule to be effective.

Yeah you have to be an idiot to kill someone 4-5 seconds after they ID a traitor body. Should be 2-3 seconds max. 3 is ok but I'd say 2 seconds would be the best. We shouldn't encourage incompetent gameplay, if you aren't paying attention to the bodies being identified then you should be punished for rdm.

We shouldn't cater to smooth brains. If someones reaction time is that slow then they deserve to be slain for being bad at the game lol, just like you would get slain for killing someone you thought was shooting at you but never fired a shot. It's not like "oh well, we don't wanna slay him for being bad at the game, he legitimately thought that guy shot him", no we just slay him lmao

my main problem with the rule is that it's used by a lot of people as a classic "oh shit I fucked up and don't want to get slain, let me use this thing and hope it's right" excuse

rules are good, but certain rules like this one allow for too much freedom/abuse, so yeah, lower the time for grace period to 3 seconds in order lessen the amount of bullshittery people can get away with, please and ty +1

It wouldn't be 'catering the smooth brains', it would just be drawing a line on the curve to capture the largest, reasonable population. Reaction times and people in general vary and I agree that 5 seconds is generous, 4 clears the majority + a few slower players, and 3 just starts to cut into the bell of the curve. Unfortunately, the damage logs only show whole seconds (shot logs show split iirc but that does not necessarily the shot was the same one that hit) and so there can't be any 3.5s or the like.

3 seconds would have a noticeable uptick in the number of slays dished out and so would be subject to change if it's too many for the simple premise, but in general I support giving it a go and reducing grace period +1

+1 from me too. I feel 5 seconds is also too generous.

Typing ttt_print_damagelog in the console will also reveal damage logs with miliseconds

In my experience there are some cases where it takes more than 3 seconds for the body identification to even appear top right of the screen, like when someone with a big kill list gets killed and a lot of kills are confirmed (that's why I have developer set to 2).
It takes around 1 second, maybe a bit less, for consecutive messages to show on the top right, so when there are a lot of messages, which don't just have to be bodies being identified, can be things like gaining additional credits, in some situations the information might just not be there unless the person presses tab, that takes time too.

I'm also unsure if it being 5 seconds makes enough 4 to 5 second victims to warrant it changing, I personally don't remember a single case this year(not all years because it's hard to remember minor things like that for years) where I've been killed 4 to 5 seconds after I identified a traitor I killed, though I remember being shot/killed 2 or 3 times almost immediately.

I guess overall I just don't think 5 seconds is an unfair amount and that there's not much of a reason for making it 3 seconds.

I wonder who first came up with the 5 seconds rule.
