  1. what's the point of this? you guys allow half naked furry pics to be used as sprays, but if someone links the home website for pornhub, it's a week ban? when people are free to say nigger and faggot and everything else now, what good does banning regulars for a week do for mediocre links like that? even links that aren't even real lol.

The links can be used to DDoS, which is mainly why it's a rule. I don't think anyone's dumb enough to actually click those links though.

  3. lmfao even with the slim chance that every single person on a packed server clicks on a link, 40 people isn't going to DDoS anything

i don't exactly know how ddosing works, I'm just saying that most people aren't going to click a link if it has "porn" or "gore" in the url. That's just common sense lol.
I don't really mind getting rid of the rule [especially since DDoSing is a very rare occurance], I'm just saying why we have it.
No one, that's what I'm saying lol

Yeah, but where are you finding this information? If the server wanted to protect other websites from being ddosed or protect the server from being ddosed, why would the rule only be for websites that host porn/gore/disturbing content? It has nothing to do with that.

We don't allow pornographic content on our servers, and so posting a porn link into chat is grounds for a ban. Is it not hypocritical to ban people for having a porn spray, but then not turn around and ban them if they post the same link, but in chat? This content is not allowed on our servers in any kind of context.

On one hand, you have to copy and paste a pornography link into your browser (if you pasted say, xxxpr0n in your browser search bar without knowing it was porn, ur kinda retarded)
On the other hand, you have a spray that is literally integrated into the map and the only way of not seeing it is by completely disabling sprays

I don't see any need for people to post a porn link in chat. It's a TTT server, playing garry's mod, why does anyone need to post porn?

im pretty sure allowing slurs opened the gates to this just saying

It’s a legitimate legal issue, not an issue of censorship like nigger and faggot were. Since we do offer our services to those under 18, we legally need to have safeguards like the “no porn link rule” in place to protect us.

I mean, no, not really. Changing a rule that denied the speech of slurs, doesn't open the gate for people to post pornographic material. Not to mention, like Wink said, it's illegal.

Gore links, for basically the same reason. but again, if you see a link in chat, the best thing to do is just not click on it.

Stick with me here, but if a link doesn’t lead to anything real, then it shouldn’t be banned for? I could be wrong (but I’m 99% certain I’m not), but if a link doesn’t exist then what content are we banning for? Posting words along the lines of “porn” with a www. in front of it that leads nowhere? I personally wouldn’t ever place a ban for something such as a completely false link. Keep in mind, I am referring to completely false links that literally don't exist. Wink already covered why the rule is here in the first place, but claiming that we ban for non-existing links with zero context isn’t true.

For the examples you posted, the first appeal lacks context of what was actually said in chat which is why it’s hard to elaborate on. From the looks of it, they posted a URL they believed was dead and it still showed results.

What Pike is talking about is the links people use to get people booted off a server. Basically it sends you to a website that spams the server with rcon requests from your browser (so using your IP) eventually getting you locked out from communicating with the server. It used to be popular in hopes of getting staff booted off the server.

Keep in mind we also have staff underaged that staff on the servers. You can't distract them that easily on a full server!
