Came across this neat video today. Pretty interesting explanation of DNS servers. Going to switch my home router tonight to try it out.
Saw the title, all I could think of was this I actually did switch my DNS to this a few weeks ago, the improvement was not out of this world but it was noticeable.
this trick actually worked like linus explained. it didn't make my internet's speed faster, but webpages now load snappier
Several reasons why I'm not switching. A. I already use google dns (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4) B. I trust google as an entity more than cloudflare C. It's probably only "faster" because they aren't getting hit like other dns providers. Google has IIRC trillions of requests per day, based on something I've seen, I'm sure I can't leak the actual number
My recommendation would be running DNS Benchmark and going with whatever top 2 servers it finds to be the fastest for you, there may be regional DNS servers in its lists that could be faster than using Cloudflare or Google's DNS services. One thing I do like about Cloudflare's service is they are promising no logging and have a very good privacy policy that claims they never log your IP in comparison to Google's where they promise to keep your IP for 24-48 hours.
REEEEE better DNS doesn't = faster internet, it means better/faster dns resolution, web pages load faster
Best solution for overall speed; Switch to linux. Kali and Debian are great. Tails and Parrot rule though
I switched to this some time ago. And really... everyone should do it. The extra speed is nice. It's noticable after all. But the main reason for me is privacy. Watch the video if you didn't already, linus does a good job of explaining it. It's way safer to use 1.1.1.1
