Thank you for your report. As a new mod, I hope to be able to learn from this experience.

First, I want to emphasize I am in no way required to answer your questions. The fact that you think I'm obliged to do so and that you feel it justifies to report me is obviously not in order to provide constructive feedback on my way of moderating. However, I will apologize for not answering. Reports were continuously flooding in at the time on the server.

Secondly, I am very much aware of the protocol that should be followed when dealing with harassment. You will find that I apply it in near to all cases. However, because I firmly believe in the intrinsic good nature of every player, and the fact that a slay naturally isn't the most pleasant thing to receive, I understand why someone would lash out directly afterwards. This is exactly the reason why I gave him one final chance. You will notice that the harassment was aimed towards ME (as can be seen in the screenshot you provided: "Papa Smurf, your name is as gay, fucking faggot, etc...). This means I am the one who chooses how to handle it. In other words, you were in no position to order me what to do, let alone report me for it.

I will include the rule on harassment for reference. Note how it literally states that it is "very discretion based". If I don't feel harassed, I am not required to take action.

 

When you for some reason gave him more chances than he should have and there was no reason to do so, and I was one he was talking shit to so of course I was upset when you gave him a warning instead of ban. as you see on first screenshot he asked why he was in the risk of ban I answered and he called me a cunt(and that is directed at me)

 

Again, this was entirely up to me as the initial situation was none of your concern. Claiming I gave him too much chances is therefore completely incorrect. You, however, insisted on reminding him (and me too for some reason) of what was going to happen to him if he continued, even though that is up to the mod, not players.

Even though it's unclear whether the "cunt"-statement was aimed towards you, (He doesn't mention your name, but let's assume it was) I still acted within the protocol by banning him immediately afterwards. I am convinced I have acted perfectly within the discretionary boundaries of the harassment protocol.

 

When he harass someone else than you, you can't(unsure if you can't, but still is something you shouldn't do based of your own opinion on the harassment) use discretion on it. and you followed warn(idk, but I guess so), kick, warn, ban. The normal harassment protocol is warn, kick, ban. Which mean that when you warned him a second time you used discretion which you had no reason to do when he harass other players than yourself and you got no reason to be easy on you while you don't know how the offended players feel about it. back again, you ignored me, when you could have said you didn't want to answer but you choose to ignore it and move on which is something you shouldn't do.

 

Will take a look over this and reach my verdict after my staffing.

Okay so this report is really messy so I will try to explain it as best as possible so that everyone involved understands the reasoning behind the situations that were taken and why they were or were not correct.

Now lets start by going over what happened. The player in questions, Galactipuss, appears to be harassing @Papa Smurf a lot, however, with the definition of harassment being so broad termed. @Papa Smurf is right with the fact that he does technically have the power to decide when something against him is classed as harassment or not. So while this player was clearly targeting towards the moderator not all of his words imply that @Papa Smurf was the intended target. There are 2 key points I mean here

• TheNomNomMasher asks @Papa Smurf to ban the player in question to which he replies by calling him "You being a cunt". This part here is where I believe he first actually targeted another player from the provided screenshot, however, without the complaints from TheNomNomMasher, this may not have been classed as harassment unless the player specifically stated it as moderators can't second guess these things. Another point to add onto this is that he was actually asking for the player to be removed, however, he didn't actually state that the player was harassing him so technically Papa can't consider it as an example against another player.
• Now if you go to the bottom picture to which it isn't clear if he was directing these messages at you but it does look to me like those messages, along with the prior ones, were made specifically towards my moderator.

So while the protocol followed isn't necessarily the most aspired trait, it was followed to the standard down the the crisp. Personally I wouldn't like for my moderators to let it go on for this far because when a player is being toxic and harassing over and over it creates a standard on the servers that is below the desirable level. However, with this in mind, the player could only be banned in this situation if Papa took the words said against him as harassment. Now a point I must make here is that staff members are expected to have thicker skins when dealing with players on the servers, and may be one of the many reasons as to why Papa did not feel he was being harassed, which is fine.

Now for this part I wont be considering it a valid concern against my moderator, therefore the former part will be considered invalid.

I do have some more information that I do want to make relevant though. Communication. This is something that I value an extreme amount. While it's not necessary for players to be informed of stuff that isn't important to them, it is still something that helps keep the server running as smooth as possible, and since this is something that I value so highly I will be marking this report overall as valid. I will shortly be scheduling another team meeting in order to discuss what I would like to see being changed and done for the future, and while Papa already apologized for not responding due to the server being busy with reports, I will not be perusing the matter in the form of a punishment.
