I ran into this theory when I was near a C4 Explosion while holding a Prop with my Magneto stick.

When the Explosion went off, the prop I was holding flew out of my control at high speeds.
If it hit someone, it would surely have killed them.

My question is: Would that count a me prop killing someone on the logs? And if so, if there anyway to differentiate/provide evidence that it wasn't your fault.

    Looking forward to enlightenment.

Since you were the last one to touch the prop, I believe it would register as you doing the damage.
And could be slain for this.
If this were to happen the best case scenario is to explain this to the staff member, So they can ask for discretion not to slay. Since it registered as your kill.

There is a glitch similar to this on maps like 67thway, where if you and buddy are jumping cars and your buddy pushed you with the crowbar and you get hit by the car next time it comes around, it will register as your buddies kill.

If the logs register it as your kill/damage you will be slain for it.
So just explain to the staff member and they can talk to an admin and most likely get discretion.

    Thanks Squid.
    I hope this helps.

Is there perhaps a C4 explosion log that could be cross referenced with the Prop Kill to boost your chances of avoiding a slay in the case of the Mod not looking into it?

Not that its enough solid evidence to prove you innocent. Id understand that people would try to abuse this if they learned this.

That's more of taking fall-type damage after being pushed. Same if you push somebody and then they jump off a ledge

I theorize that if a prop leaves your hand beyond your control (you don't release it by clicking with the magneto stick) that it wouldn't count as your damage. But in the case that it does, the rest of what Falcor said is correct. As the damage logs show, mods have to slay, unless the mod witnesses the event first-hand. If you are recording at the time, which I recommend recording demos all the time as they are small files and don't hit the computer much, you can ask the mod to hold off on the slay until you can show them what happened via demo or other recording

I'm sure once you explain what happened the staff member online with notice a c4 went off right before the prop flew and dealt damage.

But if the logs still show you dealing the damage, you can still be slain for it.
Unless they take the time to find an Admin and ask for discretion.
Unless you have a Recording, or is witnessed first hand, as Noctorious said

OBS is free and also you can record through Gmod. This thread shows how to record demos through Gmod.

I think this would ebook the key selling point to not being slain. Say you were moving a prop and the C4 went off, throwing you and the prop, resulting in a prop kill by you.

I think that if the logs correlate, the Mod should do more to seek discretion rather than just slay you.

In these scenarios; where the prop leaves your possession unwillingly, and instead as a result of another player's action, you are no longer responsible for the damages that prop makes. In this case; rare admittedly, the damage done would not be RDM, but another kill that the Traitor who placed the C4 would take credit for.

Even if the damage in the logs display you doing the prop damage, the logs will also indicate you and any other number of players getting damaged or dying due to the C4 at the same time. Mention this in your response if you're ever reported; as this scenario is not RDM, nor slayable.
