You should be able to get DNA from Harpoons

It should expire just like DNA on bodies IMO. I know weapons don't work this way, but there should be a fighting chance for a T to evade the DNA scanner after missing a 'poon. Something like 45 seconds?

Also I feel like only the center 'poon should hold the DNA
