Most of that stuff is actually funded by rich people as they pay more in taxes proportional to how much they make. Also, it is sort of hard to force illegal immigrants to pay their income taxes as they don't hold identification that is required in order to pay taxes. I mean, i get where you are coming from, I guess I should rephrase what I am actually after: Making it easier for people to get into this country the easy way, and not punishing those who can't do it the legal way. Because you know, i'm just a soft leftie who wants healthcare for everyone. :/

    Completely agree.
Yeah, Bernie really is a down to earth guy. He just want to help everybody by giving benefits like free education and healthcare, which would be awesome. The problem is that nothing is free. Bernie will have to raise the taxes, quite significantly, for the middle class (as well for the rich, who already have very high taxes) as he said in tonight's debate. And one thing that hasn't been discussed is HOW much do we need to raise the taxes to implement these complex, expensive ideas? Also, how much funding from other programs/government organizations will we have to cut (one I can think of would be military).
The problem with giving free healthcare and everything to illegal immigrants is that it ENCOURAGES them to keep coming in even more. Based on my speculation, if this were to actually be implemented, I'd think we'd have a HUGE spike in illegal immigrant crossings because now they'll know they'll be taken care of and that there's no need to come in legally as it'd be "too difficult." Sure, there's some good people who want to help their family in troubling situations in their countries and to move to the US, but they need to come in legally. I do think, though, that we should make it easier to get in legally with asylum claims.

When we encourage illegal crossings we will just bump up these stats:
Since 2012, the number of traffickers apprehended at U.S. borders has steadily increased from 364,768 to nearly 500,000 in 2014. From 2012 to 2015 the U.S. Border Patrol has seized more than:

Legalize marijuana and put a tax on it = billions of dollars into the economy and funding for social programs.

Yeah I want it to be easier for them to come here legally. Forget I said anything about the illegal immigrant thing because it really comes down to a disagreement between whether or not you are comfortable with letting them have something like that, and I am comfortable with it. On the topic of how to pay for medicare for all: the problem is that yes, it would not be free, but compared to private insurance companies it would drastically cut the cost for the average American and dramatically increase coverage. Instead of paying every month for insurance, and then a premium whenever you have to use it, you would just pay a little bit more in your taxes once every year. That is a lot of money you don't have to spend, and you would be covered no matter what was wrong with you. Insurance companies can often times reject what they cover, which is bullshit if you pay into it every single month.

The problem with private insurance is that they act as a middle man for healthcare and thus dictate a lot of the terms of who can have coverage and who cannot. They get to decide the price of healthcare, and you often times don't get a choice of doctors or hospitals, and still get slapped with massive fees for going to the doctor. I'd much rather simplify the whole process and just raise taxes to cover the costs. The issue is that no matter what I say, people hate having their taxes raised. If I say raise taxes on the rich I will get a torrent of conservatives who come in to complain that rich people make their money legitimately (which I disagree with wholeheartedly) and that they don't deserve higher taxes. If I say tax the poor and middle class than I get a bunch of people who say that they should have their taxes cut. I don't know. How about we all pay a little bit more to get something that most countries already have.

That's the problem I have. How is it so hard to convince people about free education and free healthcare when other countries do it already? I don't know.

Bernie would be a good choice if not for the fact that he is a massive hypocrite and sellout, I have no faith or trust in him sadly.
Yang would be great if they gave him a chance. I hate how the media basically decides our choices for us, before we even get to thinking.

Explain how Bernie is a sellout. Yang is ok but sadly has no chance of winning the election. I'm sorry but he has to have a lot of appeal to get over the mainstream media and he wont be able to do that with his level of following.

Bernie is a sell out because when it was revealed that he was cheated out of the DNC by Hillary, he didn't fight back. In fact, he started supporting her later, so all of HIS supporters basically got fucked, all the money they raised for him ended up in the pocket of Clinton. He is quite literally a sell out

Time the candidates get at this point with so many of them, is related to poll standings/results. Which I don't understand since this is all about getting to know candidates you aren't currently following.
Really wish the "random" selection of the 2 night debates, had Tulsi and Warren there. But I'm just holding out for when these candidate numbers to swindle down for a good debate.

Sure. The candidates that I'm going be paying the most attention to at the moment are Kamela Harris, Pete Buttigieg, Julian Castro and Bernie Sanders. Why?
    • The fact that Kamela Harris managed to break up an argument between the candidates during the debate and roast Joe Biden to the point he looked ashamed of himself shows that she may potentially be a strong candidate. Also, this is another chance to have the first female president in the oval office.
    • That being said though I'm going to give the Bernie another chance considering how he was screwed over for Hillary by the DNC but I'm not sure as to whether or not he'll be one of the final candidates for the next debate. I've heard his fund-raising is lagging behind Harris and Warren but I'm not sure if there have been any significant changes that might give him a chance.
    • I'm still unsure about Buttigieg at the moment but in the case he wins the candidacy and the presidency, it'll make the evangelicals flip their shit faster and harder than a dung beetle. It'd be fucking hilarious!
    • I'm not sure about Castro either to be honest, but the fact that he was speaking Spanish during his debate might be enough to sway the Hispanic voters to his side and maybe bridge the gap between English-speaking and non-English-speaking Americans. I can't say for sure if that will actually be the case during his run but who knows what will happen?
    As for everyone else, Well...
    • @Pacifist pretty much summed up my opinion of Andrew Yang, I mean he's a nice guy with a lot of progressive ideas but he has little experience and unfortunately he is falling behind the other candidates. That and for some strange reason he has a following of alt-right fuckwits and incels supporting him. I mean seriously, why would they support a candidate that is on the opposite end of the political spectrum? It seems sort of contradictory.
    • I'm concerned about the DNC making the same mistake they did in 2016 by screwing over another candidate for Biden. Yes, he has executive experience as Vice-President to Barrack Obama and he's popular among moderate Republicans and/or Democrats that are in office. HOWEVER, There are a lot of people upset over him working with a congress critter who was pro-segregation a long time ago not to mention the fact that he might not attract the attention of younger voters like some of the newer candidates. Also, there might be a number of people who have grievances against the Obama administration that might vote against him too.
    • I am concerned with Elizabeth Warren wanting to break up 'Big Banks', 'Big Tech', and/or 'Big Pharma'. What sort of socio-economic consequences would we be looking at if those plans became reality?
    • The other democratic candidates aren't worth mentioning.
    Questions? Thoughts?

I mostly agree, but to a point. Kamela Harris is kind of a phony progressive, and honestly isn't much better than the rest of the corporatism. That being said, I do agree with you, she is someone you don't fuck around with. Easily the best debater on stage. Bernie kind of just got through the debate. I think he will do much better once the riff raff is thinned out a bit. Buttigieg is the gay mayor right? Yeah he is far too centrist for me. I don't know about the castro thing, I bet the hispanic population cringed as hard as I did.

Biden may be wickedly popular, and I have no doubt he could easily beat Donald Trump in a debate, but he can't beat democrats to save his fucking life. The guy is basically the poster child for run of the mill centrism in the democratic party. Might as well just be watered down republicans. Also, you gotta mention your thoughts on Marianne Williamson.

What do you expect? He is an old-ass white man just like many of the members of the GOP.
I'm actually still unsure about her to be honest because some of her ideas/views do partially align with mine but I'm extremely skeptical about her plan to spend billions of dollars in reparations for slavery over the next ten years. I mean seriously, where is that money going to come from besides the raised marginal tax rate? Also, her performance during the first debate was odd and it's ended up with her getting a shit ton of memes about her posted everywhere. I'll keep an ear out for how well she does but I'm not sure if she'll make it to the top ten.

    A couple of reasons:
    1. The Democratic Establishment doesn't want Sanders to win because they're worried that regardless of whether he wins or loses the election they might lose the house and/or lose their chances of reclaiming the senate.
    2. There are a number of people that idiotically conflate socialism with communism. This is especially true for boomers and a good chunk of the Republican party since they've more than likely lived through the cold war and/or fell for either McCarthyist propaganda or the Red Scares of the mid-20th century.
    3. There are also a number of people who either believe or have been pushing the belief that Bernie Sanders' is trying to push the Venezuelan model of socialism rather than the Scandinavian model of socialism. Then again I doubt Trump, his base, and the GOP would know the difference between both models to begin with.
