so we should have a specific decibel count to define micspam? There are certain things that cannot be quantified for the purpose of rule enforcement.

If you have something more specific than “get staff on the same page,” feel free to share it. If there is something we notice, we always try to bring it up at these meetings. Without any context we can’t really change anything if we don’t know exactly what’s going wrong

  9. Staff consistency has been bugging me recently and I totally get what he means here. Theres a few examples I can think of off the top of my head
EX: Haven spray, which I got approved by several mods/admins, only to have it removed by one mod, reapproved by a different admin, then banned again, and approved immediately by Jabba. I know multiple people think my spray is funny, and I told people to stop using it the first time it got removed, then told them since the Lead gave ultimate approval they could use it. Then a few days later someone gets banned for it, granted after warnings to change it. If that were me though, and a lead told me there was no problem with it, I would assume the Lead's decisions is universal and ignore the warnings.
This is specific but its a case of interpretations of the rule, rather than a rule being clearly defined and enforced off of that definition it feels like a "I guess the rule could kinda be interpreted as this, in this situation". There should only be one staff view on the Dickless Drake haven spray, if not then that means different mods different rules? The same problem here applies to certain staff when it comes to micspam, some are extremely lenient, and some are the opposite. I've seen other people banned because a mod gave 1-2 of their gags over extremely small things, obviously there's no "this micspam is better than that one" but some things aren't intentional or intended to be micspam, and it comes off as a weird "I guess I could probably get away with gagging this for mic spam". I've seen players get 2 gags for small things like laughing or something of that tier (that the mod refused reason with) and then refuse to talk the rest of the game out of fear that could be perceived spam and get banned. Mic spam should actually be game disrupting spam instead of something someone does as a joke, or didn't even mean to do on mic. Or if we're gagging people for small shit everyone should. Also the Dolphy "metagaming" ban is completely inconsistent and a complete reach but I know you guys saw and deleted my post on that so I won't go into it (y) just know a majority of mods wouldn't have a regular banned for 'metagaming' during a ddos, which goes to my point about my consistency

I've staffed and lead staff for other communities in the past, if you want to give your staff the freedom to interpret the rules as they see fit, that's great, but they need to have a very consistent understanding of staffing and the rules, or else they'll wind up contradicting each other, people are going to be rightfully mad when they can play one way one day and get punished/banned for it the next. I've only been here for about a year and honestly the inconsistency is a lot worse now than it has been, maybe I'm just noticed it or I'm burnt out of Gmod and I'm wrong complaining about nothing but I do feel like it's a more recent thing. Just please get everyone on the same page where possible its making shit less fun lol

Part of what likely happened, at least with this particular spray, is that while it didnt break any nudity or porn rules, it can be considered disturbing (or at the very least unsettling). While the spray itself isnt banned, if someone complains to staff, or even if one of the staff find it unsettling, you may be asked to remove it temporarily. Now idk if this was the case for this instance, but its what happens many times when people get borderline disturbing sprays approved. And if someone does find it disturbing, and the person refuses to change their spray, then they would get banned as usual.

This actually is put really well, and is something that will be discussed, for sure. Just because you could argue its micspam, doesnt mean you should punish for it. If you have to argue it, then its best to let it slide unless its being uncharacteristically disruptive.

This was gone over in a Q&A as well, but the main reason why myself and another admin gave discretion for this particular ban was because he was just warned 5 minutes earlier for the same thing. And mods dont have the ability to ban for metagaming without the discretion of an admin. And seeing as the case wasnt very severe, we opted for a lower punishment than normal (a 1 week local). As for the ddos, I had no idea the server was being ddos'd, and that should have taken priority. Metagaming and the definitions of it is something I already plan on bringing up at the meeting, but thank you for also voicing your concerns.

Discuss with the staff team on if new rules (not already established rules, and common to multiple communities, like advertisement, but additional new rules or relevant changes) should only take into effect after they have been introduced to the extended rules, the motd or other relevant rule page.

Discuss if such a change would be nicer to the community and player base compared to the current status of rules coming into effect after being created even if they aren't added to the current rules (I personally fail to see any benefit on it coming into effect immediately unless it's a very much needed rule, though I'd hope that kind of rule to also be added and announced immediately if it's so important, this suggestion/discussion doesn't really apply to a rule like that).

This is a very minor topic seeing as new rules are rare and I have yet to see it come up except in special circumstances that I don't really consider here, and cowcakes' non-special circumstance also doesn't count because he was warned. But I still think it's a interesting short topic to be discussed, as I really don't see any benefit for it working like it does, in fact I think it can cause alienation between the staff team and the rest of the player base, albeit minor due to its rareness.

Please share the consensus on that discussion afterwards.

Not sure what they could be about but you guys can suggest

Yes to first, no to second. I'd love more community events, although I suspect this was somewhat limited to Highwon's work load, and is hopefully lightened now. I want more cross community events. Can we do more with TI + HG @Jabba the Slut?? pls. That hunger games event was actually stupid fun.

As for the anniversary stuff.. They're anniversary for a reason. The entire point of the scarcity is to make the skins valuable and incentivize people to be there for these events. If you re-release digital skins like that, the value just tanks, because digital items aren't like real life, there is no added value to original skins. It just cheapens the item significantly.

I don't know if staff would find this useful or not, but I'd like to suggest adding a new channel under staff where all approved sprays can go? In my head, I am literally just thinking of a channel where, if a borderline spray has had to require previous staff approval before use, it gets uploaded to that channel with what staff member approved it and maybe the name of the person who sprayed it to allow for easy search. I don't know. Perhaps something along these lines could allow for more easy verification from staff when one moderator thinks a spray isn't okay, but they then check that an admin had previously said it was okay. So, the mod's input can get overruled.

Would an Easter Event be a fun holiday-themed event idea that most people would be interested in? If done sometime in the month of April it'd be a few months after the Christmas Event and still a few months away from the Anniversary Event. I think if done around this time it would at least lessen the amount of burnout in regards to the effort it takes to plan and execute these kind of big themed events. The Easter Event could also be smaller in size compared to the other two holiday events with no new end round music and no new themed maps added into rotation. Honestly, just 1-2 holiday-themed gun skins and one new holiday-themed fun round would make for a pretty cool event. (*Possible fun-round idea being similar to the Christmas Assassins fun-round. Where players throw eggs at each other instead of throwing presents?)

    In all seriousness:
-Give T-Mods access to at least the vote-kick (or possibly kick) command. Although, I am more for just the vote-kick command.

I get that T-Mods are not meant to have any real power since they are still in training and are not considered staff yet, but I think giving them access to at least the vote-kick command would be more beneficial.

In the odd scenario where only a trial moderator is on and no moderators are immediately available, I think giving T-Mods access to vote-kick would at least allow for some short-term control over situations where a player is constantly mass rdming or spamming slurs. Yes, the karma ban is a solution to a random rdmer and reporting on the forums is a solution to punish the player spamming slurs. But IMO, both of these solutions are retroactive* (I think that's the right word?). Whereas, for the immediate people on the server, the players have to just deal with the mass rdmer or constant slur spam. Instead of just allowing for the immediate gameplay and fun to be ruined, I think giving at least T-Mods access to vote-kick would be some form of small solution or step towards helping.
*(I would honestly be for the addition of a "Trusted" rank for player over X-hours of gameplay to apply for and, if trusted enough by staff, be given access to vote-kick to increase the amount of players capable of addressing mass rdmers when staff are not on, but I know this is even less likely than giving T-Mods vote-kick. So yeah.)

IMO, I think trusting T-Mods with at least vote-kick couldn't hurt. The possibility for abose exists but would honestly be hard to abose. If the majority of players do not agree with the vote-kick, they would just vote no. Therefore, in situations where a mass rdmer is impacting the gameplay of enough players, having a T-Mod at least able to initiate a vote-kick could be helpful. If there were ever to be cases of T-Mods abosing the ability to vote-kick, I assume it would be reported to the forums just as much as someone spamming slurs would be reported. The T-Mod abosing vote-kick would then be handled accordingly. Also, in all honesty, if T-Mods were to abose the command then it only benefits the overall staff team more because then it helps more earlier reveal who may not be able to be trusted with commands like ban.

Cash I staff the proper way Banned VIP

I think the issue lies more with a 40 member staff team, yet not a single one of them being available to train/help you out - there's still a lot of times where there won't be staff but as soon as one joins, a few others will (might wanna see about spreading them hours)

I haven't personally yet ran into the issue of not having a staff member be available to train me when I have asked. I was mainly thinking of it because I sometimes play in off hours since I tend to wake up throughout the night and that's usually when I have encountered no staff and when the server becomes the most toxic.

It's not so much of a huge issue IMO, but I also don't think it hurts tbh. I think it really only benefits the server compared to not doing it at all.
