I imagine the original concept is based for convenience and opportunity. Two instances being uncertainty of electricity conservation after leaving proximity of original switch, or dimming the percentage of light being emitted, instead of the original switch model, which can only make and break the connection (which a lot of people still have). How the application works is beyond my realization. Neat application, Chai!
You're on the right track. The original idea was to introduce "Smart Switches" where lights, fans etc can be controlled via a mobile app. Yes, the system will be able to detect the presence of a human being in a room and hence activating and deactivating the appliances all by itself. Requires absolutely ZERO human interaction. All and all, these are all concepts. :/ sadly
