    Hello SGM (super gay men)

In light of a recent Q&A (linked here), the question of how to best handle unidentified bodies has been raised. Namely in the situation that someone turns to ID the body after having first neglected it.

I've added a poll with the main options currently espoused. If you have different ideas, feel free to add them here. The point of the thread is to discuss the ruling and find the best way to deal with the situation, as well as get community feedback on the rule.

    The question:
How should the unidentified body rule be handled in situations where a player first ignores the body, then moves to identify it?

My view on it is that if someone is not id'ing a body, then that is a traitorous act, regardless if they go back or not.
There's very few instances that a person should forget to id a body and then have to return to that body in order to id it.
Whilst it's true that someone may not see an unid'd body, due to certain instances such as bad lighting on some maps, fog, or simply from lack of awareness, I don't feel like it's fair to punish someone for attacking them due to this.

For the longest time, it has been traitorous to fail to id the body the first time, and it should continue to be treated that way. Traitorous acts aren't nullified, and that should be the same for failing to id bodies.
However, there comes a point where this could be abused, and like in the past, if someone fails to id a body by genuine mistake and is killed for that, then that can be evidence collected for Toxicity bans by staff holding the rank of Administrator or higher. There are also cases where someone may use this to loophole out of a report/slay, and for these instances, a similar policy can be applied.

To conclude, this isn't a major issue, a case like this has only happened to me once, and I never witnessed a case like it during my staffing tenure. We shouldn't be looking for reasons to slay people, and a lenient rule where it is traitorous to do this is understandable by most parties involved. A change isn't necessary.

tl:dr Nothing needs to change, less punishments for stuff like this means the happier people are within our servers.

The situation actually is something I have experienced more often than others and every time they got slain for RDMing me, both in the past and present, except for 1 case yesterday where the map changed so DeathScene wasnt checked in time and verdict became word v word.

Before Helix was Lead, When he was and after, they were all handled the same way.

What it looks like is, the rule havent changed, the thing that has changed is that current and ex staff is now openly talking about how they interpret it when they were staff. I must just have been really lucky that the staff that handled my reports, were intepretting it the same way as I was.

One question, but it's rhetorical. How do you know I'm running back to it? :^) If reported, No slay. Unless there's some wacky variables to change this.

I dont think there should be these fickle situational rules. If a mod or player has an issue about a situation involving iding bodies and getting killed, they can either report(player) or ask fellow staff to come to a conclusion on a particular "rdm" involving unided.
All of these actively iding scenarios involve, perspective, timing and assumptions.
Leave them simple. Trying to explain how a theoretical situation would happen or be solved appropriately is a moot point.

    1. Not actively trying to ID a body.
    2. Player must be able to see the body.
    3. Player must be able to ID the body without taking damage.

If staff or a player has an issue on an "RDM" situation involving any of these 3 points, they can ask for help in all the avenues we know of. Then that ruling applies to THAT situation.

Being practical and thinking outside the box: Do away with the entire rule. Seriously. It does not guarantee with complete certainty that someone is a traitor if they fail to ID a body. It can be reasoned with a good degree of certainty that they are, but they could just be an oblivious dumbass who doesn't know how to play the game. I mean for real, we don't mark someone innocent when they Id a body, do we? Unided bodies are basically just traps that punish bad players for not being more observant, and that lead to trivial reports that can spiral out of control into arguments if the body wasn't in plain view.

This shit is just overly complicated for no reason. Running through a checklist when you are in the heat of battle is stupid. We either do away with it or say that you can be killed for not Iding bodies PERIOD. Then we just ban people for loopholing when they are obviously just gaining the system to get cheap and free kills.

Ah another thread about a potential rule change that doesn't need to be changed, and should be dealt with on case-to-case basis. I'll also throw in my usually line about forgetting discretion from admin+ and move on.

I call out to them "why didn't you ID that body you walked by" to make them aware that there's an unIDed body and give them a chance to prove their potential innocence. If they keep going and do nothing, they get KOSed. If they die and go "WAAH! RDM! WAAAAAH!", then it's an ezpz defense since I already called the circumstances out in chat.
