Now everyone is gonna start rating my posts "you tried" whenever I come up with an idea

 

THISSSSSSSSS +1 plus the edgy one from awhile back.

 

Wouldn't important be a positive rating? Otherwise I totally support this.

I'm thinking of ways that the Important rating would be useful, but I just can't think of a way.
If someone could please explain a situation where Important would be useful, that'd be greatly appreciated.

For now, I'll remain neutral on this suggestion, leaning towards more of a -1, due to lack of practicality in my head.

 

I'm not a fan of the graphics but I like the idea +1.

Both still are great ratings with perfect multiple uses.
Only thing maybe You tried should be a tiny bit bigger or the border reduced/removed
Perfect for neutral or positive ratings

Optimistic is already used for "You tried".

Important could be useful but it's very similar to informative when needed.

 

I almost think if we simply replaced optimistic with you tried it would play it as well.

informative and optimistic, I dont see any reason we need to clutter things up for essentially redundant ratings -1

 

Important and Informative/Useful are pretty similar. You could use those two for most situations. I don't think it's needed.
"You Tried" is probably going to end up like "Dumb", causing issues, insulting others and promoting toxicity. I doubt anything meaningful will come from such a rating.

 

To be fair, the entire rating system is more or less meaningless and only ever really has caused trouble.

 

Do ratings actually cause issues besides the rare cases where thin-skinned people throw hissy fits? I could be forgetting things, but I don't really recall dumb ratings actually causing site-wide problems. The complaints would always come from people who either were being legitimately spammed for no reason, or people who would complain about the slightest thing. And while it's true that nothing "meaningful" in the good sense will come from this suggestion, has anything truly meaningful come from ratings like confusing? It's just used for passive aggressive purposes as well.

I'm not really attached to this suggestion, so I'm not going to mind if these are / are not added, but I feel like you're overthinking how much people think of ratings. I'm not saying this won't be used in a passive aggressive way - that's all it will probably be used for, honestly - but I don't think most people in the community would have issues with that.
