It helped opened my mind that what I was taught is really a delusion and that there are a lot of holes and contradictions in religion. The Don't Call Me Ishmael series is a great bunch of three books. It's about a teenage boy going through high school, dealing with stress, pressure, being bullied, making friends, and finding a special someone. It's not an escape out of this world, but rather can be used to help push you that little bit you need when you feel overwhelmed with the many situations high school can offer you.
Looking for Alaska by John Green I can relate some much to the characters ad the things they go through. The story and themes of the book are very interesting as well.
Ranger's apprentice by John Flanagan. It is a great fantasy book that I got very connected to the characters, and it has unexpected twists.
