Rejected Mods/admins enforcing name rules that don't exist

Enforcing a whole bunch of rules that aren't listed is bullshit. If you want to make a rule against confusing names, write it. Since all servers are different, different staff, different rules and different content, you can't treat all TTT servers the same.

Here are some ideas to supplement the 3 english letter name rule:

A 2 or 1 letter name is fine as long as it's distinguishable

No racism/sexism or hate speech in names

No offensive words in names.

No names that could be considered confusing or have to do with the mechanics of TTT itself.

No names consisting of nothing but a wall of letters.

 

SeriousTTT Has enforced this rule since day one. Dont complain beause its not on the rules. If any staff tells you to remove it. Then do so.

 

I'm saying to add it to remove any confusion. If one would to read the MOTD, it'd be crystal clear what's allowed and what's not allowed and less kicks would be needed. It'd improve the MOTD greatly.

 

@Highwon wants to keep the Server Rules as concise as possible. If we wrote all the unwritten rules in, it would take up pages and pages and no one would read them.

 

Well alot of people have common sense now at days. Therefore we believe on putting that you should know better. but yes i agree they should put this on the motd.

Why not have a MOTD and something that explains the rules and goes more into detail? Like on the MOTD, have a link to the rules in detail?

 

It is being worked on by one of the lead admins. We just want to make sure it completely covers everything rather than making more work for ourselves in the long run.

 

Then why enforce something that nobody can see?

 

Because things that are unacceptable are just that, unacceptable. If a staff member asks you to change your name, because it is offending other players, then just change it and save yourself the headache.

 

I was afk when I was kicked. I couldn't even see any warning or that I was even kicked.

 

This may have been because the staff member used voice chat to tell you to change your name. As our protocol does go by PMing the player though, then if they don't by the next round they will be kicked. I understand that unwritten rules are hard to come by, but if a staff member tells you to change the name, it must be changed. I know numerous amounts of players that complain and say "It's not in the rules!" but if it's unacceptable, it's unacceptable. As MangoTango said.

 

If you didn't read, I was afk. Also, I checked the log and saw no warning.

 

I know you were AFK, I was pointing that you may have not heard it because of that.

 

Then how am I to know that I need to change my name? What if there was a command for admins to rename people?

 

A Staff member will either tell you (Most likely PM) to change your name, and by next round it must be changed or you will be kicked for it.

We cannot do that and if we did you'd just get kicked and it'd be the same as you changing your own name. There's no reason for a staff member to rename people. IMO it's being forceful on what people's name should be. It wouldn't be wise at all.

 

Being AFK does not exclude someone from the rules. If you have an offensive name and are AFK point farming, I cannot ask you to change your name, because it won't happen. I asked if you were there, if I would have gotten a response, I would have asked you to change your name.

 

Whether you are AFK or not is not our concern when you are sitting in game with an offensive name (or breaking any rule for that matter). If you're issued a warning to change your name but are not there to see it, all that is seen is you failing to respond to the request, and therefore you'll be kicked. If there's an offensive name in game, it wouldn't make sense to sit there and wait for them to return just to notify them to change it, the logical path of action is to warn them and then get them to change the name before it continues to bother other players.

As for changing names, in game names are based on your personal Steam profile. Staff in no way can manipulate the details of your personal Steam profile, so us changing it for you isn't an option.

 

Sort of actually have to agree with IAMGiygas for the fact that enforcing a rule that someone couldn't or has not seen is sort of not fair to them at the very least give them a warning. I mean in this case I am not sure what the issue was he said change your name, I am assuming he did, but the argument was not needed IAMG just saying.

however saying adding those rules no one would read, your saying that they would leave the game come here and search for all unwritten rules instead?? Which is more likely? reading a slightly longer rule page or hiding them in the forums in random threads and not actually having them in a sticky etc.

also as "common sense" once in the RULES section (page) then there needs no warning, anyone with common sense should read rules or TOS before playing/accepting them? just saying.

 

If you are afk on a server with a porn avatar, does that exclude you from being warned, then kicked for having a porn avatar? No. The same applies to obscene and inappropriate names.
