Hello! I am here to ask for feedback on a potential change in the way we handle Mass RDM. Currently the rules say that after 3 offenses of RDM you would be banned for 1 day. 4 offenses and you would be banned for 5 days.

What we are proposing is this:
    - Make the 3rd offense 3 slays instead of one day.
    - After the 4th offense of RDM you get banned for Mass RDM (1st Offense) which is 5 days.
    - Your next offense of Mass RDM would be 2 weeks.

    It would look like this:

    Here are the benfits:
    - Players who repeatedly Mass RDM can be dealt with immediately and without an admin's intervention.
    - More leniency for people who accidentally RDM 3 people (most of the time it is accidental anyways).
    - Our systems are already setup to deal with the change, so coding is minimal.

"Currently the rules say that after 3 offenses of RDM you would be banned for 1 day. 4 offenses and you would be banned for 5 days."
    "2nd offense - 2 Autoslays
    3rd offense - 24 hour ban
    4th+ offense - 5 day ban"

I have never seen these punishments enforced by any staff member since my joining in 2014. What usually happens is a player rdm's once, they get one slay, then if they rdm again, its 1 slay. If they do it again; 1 slay. The only time I've ever seen a player banned for mass rdm or with regards to rdm is if they do it all in one round, or if they consistently try to take out as many players over the course of a map. I'd like to see these punishments actually enforced, because the 1 rdm = 1 slay 2nd rdm = 1 slay is far too lenient. They're mentioned in the rules, and they should be enforced.

    - Make the 3rd offense 3 slays instead of one day.
Third offense = One day; Why? Most of the time it is intentional rdm, or players who do not bother to read the rules and do not understand what rdm is. It isn't accidental or unintentional rdm if the player makes an active decision to not read the rules before playing on the server.

    - After the 4th offense of RDM you get banned for Mass RDM (1st Offense) which is 5 days.
This is just plain confusing in regards to the regular rules because when is the grace period? When a players ban expires for a mass rdm 3+, it just resets. I've never seen a fourth rdm result in a ban; just a regular slay. I need clarification on this one.

    - Your next offense of Mass RDM would be 2 weeks.
I agree with this. Perhaps make it a global 2 weeks if it is obvious that the player only intends to rdm (Mass rdm right after ban expires, but in that case, it should just be a toxicity ban).

It might've depended on staff member, but usually if the player RDMs again this map/next map, he gets 2 slays.
Are you saying 3 slays is too lenient? If so, then the point of this change is to make the bans scale, if we had mass rdm 3x then it wouldn't scale like other bans do.
It's when you RDM 4+ before getting banned, for example you kill 2 people in one round, serve your slays, and then go RDM 2 players again. 4 rdms, so you get a 5 day ban. You won't get banned if you come back from a Mass RDM 3x ban and RDM again once.

    It would work like this:
Player A rdms 4 people (either in one round or across several), Player A gets banned for 5 days.
Player A comes back a week later and does the same thing, Player A gets banned for 2 weeks.

That's all we are trying to accomplish here. We just removed the 1 day ban because we needed to definitively define what Mass RDM is, and in this case it is 4 or more rdm offenses.
  6. Why is it that I have never seen this happen? If the rules were changed to fit your new set, then would it not just be pretty much the same? Im not sure if all the staff know about the "across several rounds" because its very rare to happen, if at all. I believe I remember at one point about a year ago where I pointed out to staff online that a player had already rdm'd a player in the previous rounds and that they should receive 2 slays as per the rules. They ignored it at told me that that is not how it works.

Would it not be better for 3, since that is literally a group of players being killed by one. Killing 3 people with insufficient evidence is a lot of players. Plus, its not global; there are four other servers to join. I mean the 4 or more would make better sense in the context of if it happened over a short period of time instead of one round, but again, I've not once seen a player punished for multiple rdm's over multiple rounds.

Will this apply to mass rdm bans (within the SoL I’m assuming which is applicable) retroactively?

We got punishment lord over here. There's no need to globalize a Mass RDM ban like that unless the guy has a bad history. Plus, actual accidents and shenanigans happen (especially with grenades).

Don't know what bit you so hard that you want Mass RDM of all things to be something so devilish.

Other than that, I'll +1, it's good to show leniency on lesser offenses.

The only problem I could see with this is regular trolls squeezing out one more intentional RDM before stopping, but for the vast majority of cases this'll be better than the current system. Would be fine to only punish those trolls via admin discretion and have them get harsher punishments.

  17. I like this idea, because the people that do it by accident learn their lesson, and serve the slays. The people that are griefing won't stay for the full punishment, and will get hit with that tasty "RDM and Leave" ban. I like it. This is a good idea.

+1 - I feel like it makes it clearer and also aligns it better with the other rdm and leave punishment lengths better.

There have been times where ive needed to ask for discretion to not ban myself because of an accidental 3x rdm (in my prior staffing days). If accidental, i see no reason to ban for 1 day.

I want to add a suggestion to change the RDM bans if possible (no hijacking btw just adding to it). I think 5 days is wicked harsh and new players dont wanna come back after seeing they are banned for 5 days because they had to go do something or whatever. This is what im suggesting.

RDM + leave bans = 1d + the # of slays you have left to do. Example: I have 2 slays, therefore im banned for 3 days.

Another way I think it could be changed it by just changing the ban time itself maybe, if the above isnt liked. Like, 1d for first offense, 5d for second, and then double from there?
