Mature 18+ section on forums.

I would like to suggest another section to the forums called "18+" or "Mature". You're age must be 18 or older, and the rules for what is posted could be more lenient. It can't be a place for random posts to boost post count, it has to be a mature subject. This would be a section to discuss drugs or porn or anything like that.. I don't know if this community would be down for that, but i've seen plenty of other forums have it.

Now if anyone has a problem with this, I understand perfectly. I want honest opinions.

 

I don't know how I feel about this... we have a wide variety of ages in this community, and saying mature 18 isn't going to stop someone from accessing it. Also, we would be excluding members of the community, which isn't really fair. I'm not sure it's in the best interest of the community to have a section in the forums acting as a gateway to drugs/porn or what ever else would be deemed inappropriate by a parental guardian.
That is my opinion anyways.

 

I'm pretty sure you can make the forum invisible to anyone who hasn't set their age to 18+ on their profile.

Yeah stuff like that, and i'd like to discuss drug related topics with some of the other members.

 

I would say that if you want to discuss drug related or mature topics with other members, just PM each other.

I didn't realize we were Christian TTT. No but seriously. Just because Serious TTT is a "Serious" TTT server, doesn't mean it's members wouldn't like to discuss legitimate areas of conversation. I feel like this sort of section on the forum could be done in a tasteful way with appropriate rules applied to it. I'm not asking to have people post pictures of goatse and shit, but being able to discuss more mature topics with other members who are of age would be really nice.

Zikeji, I feel like your response to this was a very "emotional" one. In my psychology class we talk about people who use "boo-yay theory" to determine what is right and what is wrong. Somebody hears about abortion which ends the life of a baby, and people go "Oh my gosh! Hell no that is awful and I am so against abortion, how could you kill somebody!?!?!" That is somebody providing an emotional response. What they don't do is provide legitimate facts about why the idea at hand might be good or bad. The person did not consider that abortion might be a good thing because it is saving the child from a poverty stricken life or worse because the mother cannot support it.

All I'm saying is that I would love to know your honest opinion WITH facts in your response. Your current response seemed a little too quick typed out.

We have drugs, and death, and sex, and terrible and also amazing things in this world that are a little more mature. Do pretend that the Serious TTT community isn't involved in ANY of these things is willfull ignorance. In fact, I would LOVE to have a mature topic created JUST SO we could have a sweet discussion about morality and what makes things good or bad. Did you ever consider maybe we want to talk about philosophy in a separate section where trolly users can't just come in and say dumb shit? Sweet!

Also, after reading more of everybody's responses. I don't want to look at anybody's pornographic pictures. I'm positive I could find higher quality stuff myself and I would rather not know anybody's pornographic preferences here. What I WOULD LOVE in a Mature 18+ section is DISCUSSIONS about things like this. About sex, or drugs, or philosophy etc... Without younger members getting involved.

My response wasn't emotional at all, I know I could have elaborated but I felt I didn't need to. First off, I know Highwon won't go for this idea at all - so it's a waste trying to suggest it.

I also prefer to keep these topics elsewhere, like on Reddit or some of other forums I visit. I don't think STTT needs to have a section where arguments/debates run rampant. We already try to keep the community in control as it is. If we had a section like that, there is no doubt the topics would leak to in-game conversations and possibly arguments between users. Already you "emotional" example could cause a debate. SeriousTTT is supposed to be TTT that is serious on the gameplay side, so nothing to unrealistic. But it's still supposed to be fun.

 

We shouldn't have this because a 18+ area? Kind of stupid because this server is open to any ages. So people 18+ shouldn't have there own little area.

 

Here is my honest opinion of this subject. This is a pointless thing and whomever wants to have mature conversations can just PM each other. Either that or you can all sign up for a forum that does discuss the topics for which you are looking.

I think we have all that the server needs at the moment.

 

This was a thing in the old CODUO community I was a part of. An admin of the forum would have to see legitimate proof that you were over the age of 18 before you were allowed in. In this community I see that it will be more work than what it's worth. So I will -1 it for now.

 

Ok, so the general consensus is no. Just thought i'd throw the idea out there. I'm not passionate about, nor am I willing to fight about/for it. Just wanted to know what others thought of it. This thread can be closed at a mod/admins discretion.

 

I honestly was playing devil's advocate. While I think it'd be a cool section to have, I honestly could care less if it is implemented or not. I was just thinking it's sometimes cool to have conversations of that sort with the community you are part of. As opposed to have the community be ABOUT the conversations you are having.
