So after some drama in sb (For once not me wow!) I'd like some actual clarifying info, while YES Sgm Is U.S Based, if resident Of The E.U Requests their data that links to them to be deleted even U.S Based companies must comply due to it being accepted even within the U.S So I'm wondering why @Jabba the Slut thinks since it's U.S based sgm Isn't applicable, While I'm obviously aware it's most likely an obvious troll I'd like an answer out of sheer curiosity
The simple answer is that the GDPR does apply to SGM. The longer answer is that the GDPR is a complex piece of legislature. It allows for us to retain records for legitimate purposes such as tracking evidence for bans, appeals, and some other cases. But really, you have to ask yourself why the GDPR was ratified to begin with. It is mainly there to control what sort of information would be compromised in a data breach and also how your data is being used in marketing (for example the sale of your data). We do not sell any of your data. And in terms of a data breach, the only information that would be detrimental to you as a user would be your registration email. All store transactions records are kept by the respective payment processor. We do not retain that personal data. You are able to make your profile private and have the option to request a name change which we generally grant but keep in mind it is within our discretion to do so. I'm looking into ways we can implement a way for us to deactivate a forum account and delete the email record. This would essentially fully anonymize a user which satisfies the GDPR.
