It makes it extremely difficult to tag users on the forums such as Solar, as you must copy-paste the characters or find the user's custom ID. Also staff ingame should have to follow the same rules

I agree, it seems a bit hypocritical that players can't have names without English characters in-game, but admins can?

In Solar's case, you can't even search Claus on the forums to find Solar. He'd be basically untrackable if he never made a comment that wasn't quoted on the forums before

Apparently not because Solar is allowed to play willy-nilly with non-English characters

What's worse is that you can't even call him out because his name is completely non-Engish in-game. At least on the forums he has Claus in it, not like you can search or tag him either way

    I guess.. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It'd more be for convenience than because it's a real issue forum side.
Far as I can tell, this has never been an issue before this day.
I may be ignorant so by all means inform me as to why such a rule would be helpful.

I could see an argument for staff members being mandated to use English characters only/for the first few letters.
Y'know, for the purposes of tagging in reports and appeals, or indeed for starting forum conversations.
Just general ways of interacting with said member of staff, for whatever reason.

For normal users, it seems so rare and like a non-issue that there's no point regulating it.

Again, if you have a good reason to implement this across all users, I'd like to hear it.

Solar has not been in-game with his current steam name.

Mostly convenience but @Giftraffe had also pointed out,

Same reasons could be applied to normal users as well

That rule applies to speaking, not necessarily to names.
We have numerous users with non-English names written in English characters.
Are we to force name changes here?
    No, that's silly.

Additionally, there have been many instances of non-English words and sentences not being punished.
Because the breaches were trivial to the point of being a non-issue.
(e.g. "nani" "omae wa mo shindeiru")
Naturally, this suggestion pertains to characters, more so than words themselves.
So, returning to the focal point:
This seems like another non-issue for me as long as the general community is concerned.
There's already a restriction placed on names regarding characters.
Both in-game and on the forums (min. 3 English characters).

I can definitely see reason to enforce it for staff, due to our function.
Making us hard to access would be inconvenient.

But for general users, I just don't see the issue as really being there.
Quantify for me how many times this has been an issue for you or indeed anyone.
    The total sum.
How many times do you estimate that non-English characters in the start of forum names has been an inconvenience?
'cause as I stated in my previous post:

It could have been an issue which was never brought to light by users trying to tag others, but having a staff member with a name that starts with non-english characters will make that more prevalent.

I don't care if your names end in non-english characters as long as they are still easily taggable, just don't have them start with characters which aren't on the QWERTY layout keyboards as it causes issues. My whole point is that like in the servers, non-english characters should not be allowed as they impede the tagging process of said users.

Only real response I have is my first response:
Not a hard rule to make and enforce.
So if it helps in the extremely rare case where it becomes relevant..
Sure, why not I guess ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Staff are already expected to follow the unreadable name policy in game while on our community servers, and I don't see foul play with that here.

However, a standard I hold myself and my team up is to have forum and servers names identical/close to identical, so players can easily find and contact you who may not be too familiar with our community. I'd be for the change for a staff team forum implementation, neutral for a community wide forum implementation.

Yeah I realised Solar didn't have it for long after I posted it, hence removal of the pic.

Yeah this would be nice too, preferably if it included making sure your name is easily tag-able here on the forums
