I have recently become apart of this community and I love playing on the Vanilla Server, but I wish that you would be able to access the damage log more. For an example, you could only access it when you are dead or you can access it when you are alive but only the previous rounds. I like to be able to see who did what and if there was any RDM during the rounds I play. Thanks for Reading!

I agree with being able to see the damagelogs as a regular player. It has been denied in the past for reasons along the lines of “it can be abused” but i mean anything can be abused but this is not as abusable as other things.

People will argue that you can just use the print logs command in console but imo that doesnt give enough information as the F8 menu can.

normal users have access to ttt_print_damagelog which can only be used at the END of a round, the rdm manager with more in depth logs if only for trialmods+ , this is to stop backseat moderating and also because there is some part of the manager that were made for SGM and we try not to let everyone see these thing (as far as im aware)

When you setup the group that can view the damagelogs as a user, you can select every feature you want to show and you dont want to show.

As for backseat moderating imo only those who wont be named but are known for it, do it. 95% of other players dont care about others when they are rdmd unless the player is causing a server wide problem. Then it is usually reported on the forums.

Another pro about having the F8 menu avilable is it will allow staff to skip that extra step of checking the logs for forum reports. Players can upload pictures of the logs. Having to go all through the logs even when players have added the text logs (which i know can be tampered with) takes a bit of time. The pictures of the logs CAN be tampered with but it wont be common at all bc it requires photoshop knowledge and actually takes a bit of time. It will probably be very apparent that it was photoshopped in to

I want to say that for those who -1 only bc of it encouraging back seat modding, there are rules already in place for people who decide to backseat. This wont change the amount of backseating already occuring, and already being handled.

Edit: it might add to the amount of backseating but it can be handled i mean thats why the rules are there? Why keep from adding something that can be pretty beneficial just bc it COULD encourage backseating?

I’m neutral on the idea myself, not sure if it’s one of those things that just won’t happen due to management preference. If such a thing was added, backseat moderating would need a bit of a harsher stance taken towards it if staff sanity was to be ensured; it’s rather unheard to get a warning for that right now.

If logs show past round, I don’t see much that can be abused.

Staff will and have argued that players will try to find way to get out of slays while being able to see the F8 menu. There isnt enough detail in the damage logs console command to really do this.

Its weird tho bc staff are told to go off of report response 99.9% of the time. Its because players tend to change their story up afterwards if staff tell them what happened and where/when.

This is really the only way i can see this being abused, and players will hardly get away with it if staff follow what they were trained to do (i.e. not allowing players to change their story). Its easy to tell when players are trying to get out of a slay by lying because of the plentiful resources at hand.

Why not improve protocols for backseat moderating?
I have seen other communities approach to this, and it worked for most of the time.

Secondly, can make it only available at end of the round just like damagelogs to prevent ghosting and reduce the likelihood of people using the damagelogs to look for reason to get out of being punished.
If worst come to worst, could try and have somebody look at it and code in a way for people not be able to look it up when they haven't responded to the report. (although probably unlikely based on how things are currently unless pixel is willing to do this)

I like this. Just gonna throw this one out here, I've heard before that a reason we don't let players view logs is that too many players viewing them at a time causes server lag, or something to that effect.

If you're not using logs and a death scene to figure out a report, then idk what these mods are doing. I was told they check, but damage logs can also help plead the case, there are times I was unfairly slain due to others rdming, and either there was crossfire to the wrong person, or someone not IDing bodies, etc. With damage logs, you can gauge what happened and the sequence of events that lead up to the report. It's hard to justify a blatant RDM with damage logs. If anything if they wanna avoid being punished and or loopholing so they can break rules, they need to rewrite rules to avoid loopholes as much as possible.

    Otherwise I agree.

Ahhh the typical thing with people who get overly triggered by a rating.

I do not disagree that you heard that. I disagree with what you said you heard. Its pretty easy to see that i meant that with the rating.

I wasnt going to say anything bc i didnt want to start anything, but the F8 menu doesnt take up as much resources as you think. Wherever you “heard” that, its safe to assume they were mistaken.

Edit: Even if all 40 players pressed F8 at the same time, you wouldnt notice any difference in performance.

For the part about only viewing it at the end of the round, You can easily add all this when you create the group “user” for regular players to view it.

Its fairly simple too, a couple of check boxes.

As for the not being able to view it before youve responded to a report, thats a good idea. Ive never had the opportunity to test if its possible to open F8 while responding to a report, but if it is then yeah this would need to be added.

Bare with me this sounds great in my head its hard to put it into words. What if the report response box was the only thing a player could interact with until the response is submitted? Or just have the F8 key be non functional until a response is submitted?

  19. I'm going to have to +1 this.

In addition to the damage logs, the shot logs and death scenes are also accessed via the F8 menu.

These tools have aided me in my previous gaming communities by helping me avoid filing frivolous reports by giving me another look at things from unlimited perspectives.

The recordings of death scenes can also be used in reports, and are immune from hearsay and forgetfulness, making them more valuable than player testimony.

Please give us access to these valuable tools.
