Rejected Make Hacking a Permabannable Offense

Discussion in 'General Suggestions' started by Python~, Sep 7, 2019.

?

How should we ban Hackers?

  1. Perma on first offense

  2. Global ban for 1 month, then Perma

  3. Global ban for 2+ months, then Perma

  4. Global ban 1 month, then 6-8 months, then Perma

  5. No Perma unless 3+ offenses

  6. Keep it the way it is

So it's easy to evade a permaban, but not a 1 month ban? These cheaters are stacking up to 5, 6, 7 and sometimes even 8 bans before actually being perma'd. Doesnt seem very effective.

You're saying it's easier for admins to ban cheaters multiple times than it would be to just permaban after the 2nd offense?

Sure, maybe the leads/Highwon wouldn't enjoy or have much time to permaban every hacker, but it doesn't take long at all. Admins could even ban them for a few days until a lead can issue the permaban. Not sure what "extra work" you're talking about. It's more work to NOT permaban.

Well if the majority vote went through, you'd still be able to play, just after a global ban for a month.

And even if you were perma'd, you'd have the option to appeal it.

  7. Imagine how much he'd make if servers were adequately staffed and hackers didn't have the opportunity to be repeat offenders. Not to mention the sheer amount of time staff has to dedicate to dealing with this shit.

Nearly every non-staff wants a perma to eventually be given. Why the fuck isnt it happening lol

It’s pathetic and sad how little you guys listen to the players nowadays.

Yeah it’s honestly kinda draining after a while of banning the same guy over and over when they have a ton of alts that have expired bans. Maybe they would get more good applicants if they had rules that didnt increase burnout.

Theres ONE VOTE in the poll that says we shouldnt perma. If you don’t want to do the maths thats 1/40 people.

idk if you guys noticed but most of the bans recently are evades

people are gonna evade regardless of whether its a perma or not

stupid change just makes more difficult to fully punish as leads would be needed to perma all peeps

I'm a fan of making the hacking offense slightly harsher, with a permaban as the 4th offense.

    1st Offense - 4w local
    2nd Offense - 16w global
    3rd Offense - 52w global
    4th Offense - Perma

I think would work pretty good. Before their perma, they have to sit out a year to really make sure they wanna go back and immediately start hacking again.
I'd like to make it clear that people can, and have changed for the better. There's quite a few excellent staff members who have histories of hacking, but got "clean" and became pretty cool.

I'd also like to see harsher punishments for ban evasion, escalating much more quickly to multi-year bans, and eventually the perma. I'd also like to see evading a ban evasion ban become a bannable offense - as it stands right now, if your original ban that you were caught ban evading on has expired, you are allowed to ban evade the ban evasion bans, which makes zero fucking sense.

Sure, they can evade. We make it really easy for them since at the moment, we only ban them off of one server at a time. Hacking shouldn't be a server-specific ban, it should at the very least be globalized.

And permanent bans would drop the amount of hackers on the server drastically. Why evade when as soon as you're caught, you get perma'd? At some point it's more trouble than it's worth, even for them.

Also, it's not more difficult in the least. It's easier to ban a hacker twice and be done with it, than have to continuously ban the same hacker with new evidence every few months

its not evading if you're not banned on the server you hop to

evaders are gonna evade regardless of what their ban is. They typically don't care whether it's a short ban or a perma

again people evade regardless so it wouldnt actually make a big difference of their ban

The real reason its not a perma is because a temp ban incentivizes players to come back, therefore boosting player numbers for the server stats :D

Making the bans perma is just not something I can do. Even if I wanted to, I just can't. My personal problems with a perma ban is that they are just so hard to manage. First of all, it would require that a lead admin be present to facilitate the permanent ban, which would be a massive load placed on top of me and scuffed. As my role is mostly concerned with the forums and helping admins, it would be rather annoying if I had to load up gmod every single day to ban someone who more than likely installed a free script they found online and decided to have fun for a half hour. If there was a way to delegate this power to the admins I would, but there is no way that the power to perma ban should be placed on the administration

Now I can handle a few bans here and there, i'm definitely up to the challenge (even though it would be annoying as hell), but what I dread more than that is the appeal process. Perma banned users are required to appeal through lead admins, which would mean that we would have to come together and decide on each individual case as to whether they should be unbanned. Any person going through that process will know that it is a major pain in the ass. It is a bunch of deliberation that takes a long time to complete, and often times we have to consult with the owner to see if those users should be unbanned. This means that three to four people will be handling an appeal in the background who may have had nothing to do with the original ban. I am usually tough to convince in an appeal, and that could be very problematic to any would be appealers.

Maybe I have no idea what I am talking about. You've likely heard these excuses before and you don't care. I do have a few ideas in mind tho:
    1. Have hacking offenses stack across accounts. (Meaning that offenses of hacking could be applied to an alternate account, instead of just having different histories for different accounts)
    2. Increase the ban time for 3rd offense to 32 weeks.
    3. Highly encourage moderators and admins to globalize the first offense of hacking.

This is pretty much all I can do for you guys. Let me know what you think. Also, UncleBee has no idea what he is talking about.

I could agree with this, though on 4th/5th offense, you and scuffed should take the time to permaban. Even if you have to write down steam ids and do a mass ban at a later date, which would save time.

As far as appeals go, let admins handle appeals for hackers, though if it's their 3rd/4th offense of hacking, they shouldn't really be allowed an appeal imo

It should be mandatory to globalize the first offense.

  16. Instead of permabanning, make the first offense 1 year, second 2 years, and so on.

    Alright similar scenario different game

Someone spinbots on csgo (before or after it was made free) and gets a VAC

They wish to continue spinbotting on csgo

They make a new account and even though the ban on their main is perma, they go and spinbot on new account

lesson is people evade bans regardless of length

Well I guess we might as well not even ban hackers at all then, since they are able to evade :D

Well, we also can't leave them to just hack and kill the server.... and most hackers don't even feel regret. So this is kind of a loop. We can't leave them to hack but it's probably pointless to ban as they can just evade. So what can be done to solve the problem?

...and then that account will subsequently be VAC banned.

We can't control if hackers evade or not, so I don't really see your point.
