Heyo folks. So before I get into the post, Yes I know I'm fat. Hence the title and what I'm about to say. We're gonna go old southern folks saying here of: *If you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything*

I posted this on Crescent when I started this, and found it might've helped someone else or incentivized someone else to join me in trying to get healthier. So if it does, great! If not, then just skip over this thread or mute it, I won't be offended.

So this past December I had a wakeup call. Of holy fucking shit I've let myself go. Bad. Between real life weighing on me (pun not intended lol) I had realized that I was either stress-eating, or just in general eating my feelings I guess. And coupled with my desk job, holy hell this didn't sit well. Oh, and about 6 months of drinking 2-4 Monsters a night during work nights pretty much guaranteed me to shoot up in weight, more than I already was.
Cut to December: I decided I've had enough. I went on a pretty strict diet for about 2 months and while I haven't dropped a whole lot in scale weight, You can *see* the amount of weight I've lost. I have for the most part cut out sodas (might get one here and there) and mainly drink water, flavored water or a sweet tea with my lunch. Food wise I'm not as strict with at the moment, mainly because we're in a transition period from the Mother In Law moving out again (Finally) and getting things back to the way we had it. But good news: I have a brand new treadmil that does incline as well. We've put it in the living room so that now, I don't have to worry about bugs and the extreme weather we get here (don't wanna get sick, also just kinda lazy by nature, our old and now broken treadmill was outside in our building before) so as soon as I can get the living room moved around, I plan on using it 5 days out of the week, maybe more. I'm not trying to lose TOO much weight too quick so i don't have saggy skin. bla bla.

So sorry for the novel but that's basically everything you've missed out on. Now for the proof from where I'm at now pictures wise. I've never really kept up with scale weight since it can fluctuate so much between morning and night, But I started out at 272lbs, and right now I'm bouncing around 250-260lbs. (oh and I'm 5foot 2inches tall)
***Like I said before, yes I know I'm fat and uggo, you dont' have to tell me I don't wanna hear it. no i'm not fishing for comments***
Here is the day I started the diet:

    Here was last week:

So yeah. That's where we're at now. If you've done something similar or have a pretty healthy diet/workout routine, I'd love to hear about it.

Shit son that's some serious achievement, keep at it.

I'm a stress-eating procrastinator extraordinaire, not fat, just not healthy or happy about it. So in October, I started having set meals, forcing myself to swim and walking part way to school instead of just getting the bus. All that and some other stuff meant; I felt full, did some actual exercise, and socialised more than just sharing memes and shitposting. Within a few weeks I felt comfortable swimming, talking and walking, all while my mood improved and I was doing something to improve myself. Past few months of my life have been amazing and free from my usual winter depression, I put the onus on that and fuck me it feels great, weight loss is just an extra at this point

Make something special out of what you're doing, then once you feel comfortable, join some form of group or get your friends to join, cause at the very least it's harder to forget and less boring, on top of that give your self a goal and make it specific to something you want to do. Keep track of how you're doing, because you and the people who you interact with won't notice any changes and you need some record of what you have achieved. Anyone can help you, but only you can do shit with it. Good Luck x

ps dw about saggy skin shit's flexible and not too bad

That's a fair concern. It sounds like you've already picked up some healthier habits. Keep at it and you'll keep making progress. You can't (shouldn't) try some miracle cure where you lose 50 pounds in 2 weeks.
Healthy habits and sticking to a realistic program is the best way to lose weight (and also improves your self esteem (y)).

Here's my two cents on the subject:
Avoid alcohol and sugar altogether, since both are unhealthy and addictive. Go for whole foods. (the less processed the better)
Don't give in stressful situations, rather binge on exercise (not too much) or do something you love. Simple right? Well it isn't the hard part is keeping the routine and to not give in.

If you ever do give in don't hate yourself this will only make it worse and eventually you might give up. (We all do mistakes, we're not perfect)

Saying one of my own mistakes, whenever I keep trying to hold a diet and end up taking a snack over a stressful situation I say "Fuck it, I'll keep the diet tomorrow" (I call this the Fuck it attitude)
This will eventually make me binge all day on alcohol, food and anything I get a hold on to cope with failing the diet or stressful situation.

Now I wrote that to give you a heads up and be prepared if any of these ever might come across.

Good Luck cause I can guarantee that when you reach the goal you're going to be feeling way better, you will feel alive, healthy and flexible. Take it from me I gained and lost my obese weight like 3 times now.

Great to hear that not everyone has fallen victim to "Riot, don't diet!" propaganda!

Something that is important to know is that losing weight is really as simple as "burn more calories than you consume". I know it's obvious, but I feel like people don't understand how important this basic rule is. Here's an example:

I occasionally cycle for an hour at the gym while watching New Girl on Netflix or something. Cycling for an hour makes me burn like 600 kcal. I think in America you'd say 600 Cal? Anyway, one time, when I came home from cycling, I ate half a can of Pringles. Half a can of Pringles is about 500 kcal. Now, I don't really cycle in the gym to lose weight or anything - I do it to get some cardio and because it's generally healthy - but it made me realize that cardio doesn't do a lot when it comes to weight loss. I thought, "I went to the gym, changed clothes, cycled for an hour, came back home and showered and all it did was burn the calories from about 60% of a can of Pringles?".

    Then I realized.

I could just not eat the can of Pringles.

This might not be as obvious to people. Please, by all means, do cardio. It's healthy, and it relieves stress. But don't think that it's gonna play a big part in losing weight. Running a marathon burns as many calories as you consume in a day. What's easier? Running a marathon or just skipping a day of eating? Or, to make this choice even more obvious: Running a marathon and skipping one meal a day for three days?

Anyway, it's great to see that you've already lost weight and that you realized that soda plays a bigger part in weight gain than many people would think. I think that once you're out of the transition period you talked about, you should try a technique that German speakers call "FdH". It stands for "Friss die Hälfte" and roughly translates to "Eat half as much".

Nice and brief message, but yeah.
You burn calories during exercise, and after exercise you burn about 10% extra (EPOC). But simply being alive accounts for 60-80% of your calories burned per day, another 10% is calories burned by eating and digesting. So on average, your exercise will account for around 20% of your calories burned. Healthy habits, like not eating until it hurts every meal or eating mcdonald's every day, are way more impactful than a ton of exercise when it comes to losing weight. Exercise has a ton of other health benefits too though - as does eating varied foods, particularly vegetables.

Exercise is part of a healthy lifestyle, doesn't have to be a part of losing weight.

Key the weight loss, is mainly a healthy diet and lifestyle. Eat less and eat wise, that’s the biggest key to success.

Well one thing you can do is get your BMR and put it into the Harris Benedict Equation.
Rough estimate of daily calorie needs for staying at that weight. Minus 500 from it to lose a pound a week (if i recall)
Not 100% how it works but it kinda makes it more simple to understand for some.
But it's better to get that calorie amount from healthy food of course.

I mean.. some people think starving yourself is the right way to go, yeah no. Exercise and eating right does ye well.

One thing I noticed about myself, at my normal house I mean, i don't eat amazingly and such, but I stay around a constant weight, but I eat when I get bored thinking i'm hungry and kinda just can't help it. Go to fathers house, I don't eat that often, i'll drink flavored water most of the day and I end up losing like 5 pounds, just from sitting around doing nothing other than drinking water instead of eating. Stress eating, and "bored eating", really effects the body.

Good job on the weight loss progress by the way :)

Great job on the weight loss! I used to weigh 230 pounds, I would pant walking up a set of stairs. Then I went through a bad break up and decided to lose weight. I wish I knew that loosing weight slowly would help reduce loose skin. I lost 60 pounds in 3 months and by using the ketogenic diet. During those 3 months I didn’t exercise once lol. Now I’m going to the gym and building muscle to fill in the little bit of loose skin I have. My #1 advice when you feel like giving up or cheating is looking at your old pictures. Think about what you want more? Do you wanna cheat on your diet? Or continue to progress and loose weight? But good job again looks like you got this in the bag! Let me know if you have any questions.
