Net Neutrality

Net Neutrality means an internet that enables and protects free speech. It means that ISPs should provide us with open networks — and shouldn’t block or discriminate against any applications or content that ride over those networks. Just as your phone company shouldn’t decide who you call and what you say on that call, your ISP shouldn’t interfere with the content you view or post online.

Without Net Neutrality, cable and phone companies could carve the internet into fast and slow lanes. An ISP could slow down its competitors’ content or block political opinions it disagreed with. ISPs could charge extra fees to the few content companies that could afford to pay for preferential treatment — relegating everyone else to a slower tier of service. This would destroy the open internet.

Defense of Net Neutrality is exploding at the moment. We've defeated the repeal of it several times in the past, but the FCC is going hard this time around. By this time next month, it could be completely dismantled

Every time the sanctity of net neutrality has been challenged it has been put down by the voice of the people. Call it the Obamacare of the FCC. Now, more than ever, we need to stand up (or rather, sit on our lazy asses) for our right to freedom of speech and porn sites on the internet

Currently, Republicans hold 3 of the 5 FCC seats, and the chairman of the FCC, Ajit Pai*, is one of them, who is the one pushing for the rollback. If we want to continue to say what we want, at least both Democrats and 1 of the 2 Republicans -- because we know what one is voting -- must vote No.

For that, we need to make our voice heard. Links below.

*Oh, and by the way, Pai used to be a Comcast executive. This ruling will allow internet service providers, like Comcast, to charge extra for certain sites, or slow down sites with different views - political or otherwise. Hmmmm [IMG]

FCC has already voted to vote again to completely end all net neutrality rules by December of this year. It doesn't really matter if you comment on FCC's page because they have actively announced that they will ignore people's comments on those. Sadly, the only thing you can do to actively change this is to vote in local and midterm elections that would allow your representative to change the way FCC oversight works.

Who said we didn't know this was a thing? It just became relevant again because the FCC is now fighting like never before to repeal it.

I'm not really sure what you're stance is, unless it's just being a troll, in which case, spot on work. It still affects you regardless of what you wanna say about Americans

Fuck Ajit Pai and this current government. The fact that this repeal will go through in less than a month is beyond insane and unreal.

Even though I live in Canada and this doesn't have an effect on me YET. I will be fighting with everyone the best that I can. This is completely absurd and needs to be fought against no matter what.

I was about to make my own post about this but I found this thread searching for it. Thank you for putting a lot of detail and thought into the thread.

Absolutely. If we can get at least one of the two fcc republicans voting (excluding Ashit pie for obvious reasons) on NN to support it, neutrality can still stay.

Sent letters to my reps, but I doubt they’ll switch to supporting it since they’re hard right-wing republicans who only support corporate interests.
