    A serious Gamemode Suggestion.
    Hello, everyone. I'm tyler.
Recently I've gotten back into GMOD a little bit and subsequently this community too. I've noticed, as has everyone, it's withering numbers of players. It's been consistent recently and shown a little bit of growth I believe. But not what it was a year ago.

I'm suggesting creating a server for a gamemode that has also been dying for years:

    Jailbreak.

I realize that this has been suggested before, but it's never truly been explained. Maybe I see it differently than everyone else, but I think SeriousGMOD is a perfect community to start a Jailbreak server. And even revive the gamemode itself.

    Jailbreak

What is Jailbreak? You might ask.

Well, Jailbreak is a roleplay game mode on Garry’s mod. That includes two teams that consist of Guards and Prisoners. Guards try to keep the Prisoners in check and the Prisoners either listen to the Warden or rebel. The final Prisoner gets to have his or her’s death request. Which they can access using F4.

    Guards

As a guard, you spawn in a room full of weapons known as the armoury, and your job is simple, enforce the warden's orders and/or or maintain order and kill rebelling prisoners. You will be able to kill prisoners if they are classified as KOS. See, "Jailbreak Terms" for more info on KOS. You can tell a prisoner is KOS if another guard calls them out seriously, if you see them holding a weapon, disobeying orders, or going into a KOS area. As a guard though, you must also follow the warden's orders or you can be kicked or even banned from the server.

When you are a guard, at the end of every round you can opt in as warden or vote for someone to be warden. You may not opt into the vote and vote for someone else during the same round over period. When you opt in, you will not be able to be voted for until the end of the next round. To opt in as warden, you must have a microphone to talk to everyone, or the day will be classified as a free day, and your orders will not affect the prisoners.

    Warden

As the Warden, it is your responsibility to take charge of the prison. You are in control of what happens that round, you can do many fun days and activities. You are the leader of everyone in that prison. It is your job to make sure the round runs smoothly and that nobody rebels. If somebody does, it might just come back to bite you.

In order for Guards to become the Warden, you must press F4(or whatever the Warden button is for the server.) You must then quickly claim the spot as Warden at the beginning of the round. Once you’ve claimed your spot, you must give orders by 9:00 or it will be a Freeday, meaning that no orders can be given for the rest of that round. The first orders you give will be in-cell orders. Things the prisoners must obey by in their cells. Then it is up to you what to do with the day. Once orders are given you have many different options, there will be games you can play (e.g. Salty Spitoon, American Idol), or specific days (e.g. Hide n Seek).

    Prisoners

As a Prisoner, you have two options, either rebel or follow the Warden’s commands. At the start of the round, you will spawn in a cell. Some of these cells have Escape Routes, that let you get out of the Prison quicker than other rebellers. However, going into any of those escape routes automatically makes you KOS, as they are KOS areas. Once the cell doors have opened, you will most likely be given an order to go somewhere, or do something. If the Warden tells you to go somewhere, he will most likely put down a Warden Waypoint that you will easily be able to see. If he gives you orders to go to it, you must oblige. Or, you will be KOS.

If you are a sneaky one and you’d like to rebel. There are many ways to do so, on most maps, there are guns located in many places that aren’t the armory. Although, the armory is the best place to get guns. If you successfully escape, then you have been entrusted by your fellow inmates to kill all the Guards. Once all of them die, the Prisoners will have successfully won the round.

But what if you’re a good boy? The only way to win the round as Prisoner without absolutely decimating the Guards is to follow the Warden’s orders. If you’re able to keep that up for the entire round, you have won! Your reward is… death. You have gained the ultimate Death Request. You get to proudly click your F4 button and choose a way to die. The DR is more like challenging a Guard to battle. Sometimes, if you’re so good. You might win each and every battle, if you do beat all those pesky Guards then the round ends and it all restarts. Giving you an option to either do it all again, or rebel like you’ve never rebelled before.

    Jailbreak Terms
Here is a list of the most common terms used in Jailbreak.
    -KOS
    Kill On Sight
If you are declared KOS, any guard will kill you on sight. This only affects prisoners.

    -KOS Area
    Kill On Sight Area
An area that you will make you be deemed KOS if a guard sees you there.

    -Free day
    Free day
When you can do whatever you want, and the warden's orders can be ignored. You still can not do KOS things, or you can be KOS.

    -LR
    Last Request
This is what the last prisoner remaining gets at the end of the round. The request can be anything, but will only take place in the next round.

    -DR
    Death Request
This is sometimes asked of the last remaining prisoner. If asked of the prisoner, they get to choose the way they want to die that round.

    -LR Competition
    Last Request Competition
A competition that normally decides who dies, and who gets LR.

    -AFK Freeze
    Away From Keyboard Freeze
This is where you stop moving completely in the game.

    What's good about Jailbreak?

Jailbreak has only a few servers and only three of those servers hold a consistent amount of people. Around 15-25 people a day. I think it's because of the state of the servers that are currently on Jailbreak. They're awful, truly god awful. They're filled with useless skin content and addons some of the servers have ADS too!
What I'm saying is, someone who's played jailbreak since 2013 and misses it dearly, it would be incredibly easy to create a server that gives people a positive experience!

A lot of people still love Jailbreak, it's very popular on CS:GO. It's also incredibly easy to setup a jailbreak server, and there is NO shortage of addons you could use to make a Serious JB truly unique to the gamemode. The servers current are not good examples of what Jailbreak should be.

Jailbreak also brings in a shit ton of revenue, people love donating to Jailbreak servers. Every time I'm on the popular JB servers there are always donators on, and they're always different people. What we would have to do is get and maintain a stable player base. On Jailbreak people will always join if there are people on, it's one of the most easy servers to populate. The trick is getting them to stay. That's why current JB servers are so overrun with addons, because they're trying to have as many interesting things as possible to keep the server interesting.

People above all else like a jailbreak server that is balanced and has semi-quick rounds. Which is possible when you have adequate staff. In jailbreak the rules are clear and concise, even if there is quite a bit of em. Moderating jailbreak is easier than TTT and harder than Deathrun. But you will not find a shortage of people who would love to be staff on the server. A lot of people are drawn to Jailbreak in terms of applying for staff.

Jailbreak also has a wide variety of leeway when it comes to what you can do in a round. You can make a round yours as warden or even as prisoner. There is already a laundry list of games that exist in Jailbreak. But you can make a round out of anything. That's the most fun about Jailbreak, when you get a group of people who are playing because they love the gamemode, to just fuck around and make rounds how they want them to go.

But even as a prisoner you can rebel and attempt to end the round if you'd like. If you don't know much about Jailbreak there's a guide I wrote below and you'll understand what I mean if you read it.

    The only problems...

The only problem is the risk it might be. It's clear Jailbreak is a dying gamemode, so it might be risky to start running a server for it when we could just get a darkrp server which has a massive playerbase.
However, there are a million DarkRP servers, only around 18 non-private jailbreak servers.

I believe SeriousGMOD as a community is perfect for the jailbreak scene. Especially what we have setup with fun rounds on TTT and Deathrun. That would fit perfectly inside the whole Jailbreak gamemode. Plus with what we have setup in general with rules, and how our staff team operates, it would fit right in with Jailbreak. I personally have staffed a few jailbreak servers since 2013, and it's truly similar to what we have now with SeriousGMOD.

There are also quite a bit of rules, ones that are easy enough to understand. However noobs to the gamemode will not understand them, I doubt they'd even read them at first. The key is to make rules that make sense, improve the quality of the game, and are something anyone can grasp. Most of the time when playing Jailbreak people try to learn as they go along. We need to make that easy for them.

Now I realize this could be a total waste of a thread, and some of you don't give a single shit about Jailbreak. But I promise you, it is easy to make a jailbreak server and when you do it right, it's consistently enjoyable with a lot of really fun people.

I don't know if it's just me, it just feels as if we're in a bit of a lull in this community. Not a lot of people care anymore, just some of the staff and the lead admins. So why not add a server? We know TTT, we know Deathrun. I feel as if it's love overdue we get to know another Gmod gamemode. And I think we could be the ones who revive Jailbreak. Because it's truly a great gamemode.

But anyway, there's my suggestion. I'm sorry if it's a little bit of a mess, but Jailbreak used to be the only gamemode I EVER played. Since 2013. I would hate to see the gamemode go away completely on Gmod. I'd be on SeriousJB for hours.

Take into consideration, please. And also leave feedback on why you think it might or might not be a good idea.

It really depends on the fact if people are willing to play it. I remember years ago that SGM used to have one dark rp server and it died off. Personally I would be happy to see Jailbreak be added.

Stick with the original Jailbreak gamemode, JB7 is bugged and stupid. Original JB is more TTT-like gameplay

Agreed. It's important to keep the gamemode unbugged, Idk why everyone switch over to JB7. It's so much easier to config the regular original JB.

Many servers jump to be mainstream. Low-key, being different from what is normally seen is another good way to attract population. I was apart of a community that had the only server up with the original JB mode, when it switched to JB7, population dropped, so original JB is boss

I was and semi still-am open to this suggestion. I think Jailbreak would be an excellent gamemode for SeriousGMOD. We have a great community installed here which is super important for a surviving Jailbreak server.
However, unlike my past self, I am also not saying it's vital. The other jailbreak servers are kinda trash and i really liked the gamemode, but LifePunch recently installed itself back from hiatus and I always appreciated their server.

TL:DR I'd totally play it but I'm fine playing LifePunch's rebooted JB.

Also if there isn't proper funding for a Jailbreak server, as it has been in the past, it shouldn't be pressured on the staff or High.

Honestly I think it'd be a great way to try to grow the SGM playerbase. I used to love it back in the day and I agree that this community would be fun to play it with.

I think, personally, lifepunch is just a fraction of what it used to be. I played on the Cube but when it shut down lifepunch was fun. But now like 5 years later, it just isn’t as good. Why I think SGM would do so well with our own Jailbreak server.
Also I’d totally donate to help out whatever the cost, if if’s needed. But if it’s just too much out the budget then I totally understand that, and don’t wanna pressure them.

I'm not going to say it could never happen, but a third server type isn't likely to be introduced any time soon.

Our main focus will be on our TTT servers until they are as strong as they once were. We have a lot of ideas on how to get to that point, we just lack the extra developers to help make it happen.
