@Aegis Here’s one of my biggest fuck ups. I was way too defensive over my decision here (a few other factors played a role, but they aren’t important to this). Yes, I was allowed to ban for rdm and leave too, the rules obviously allowed me to. The rules allow you to ban for gore sprays like you said.

However, enforcing a ban after a player with a clean history shows nothing but apologies, and was willing to comply with a warning? That just makes you look like a dick. Come on man, putthe community over your ego.

Is this because he banned Powepoint? Tbh, the guy is pretty chill, if I were a mod then I would warn him like Nuno did. But obviously some people are different, nobody went too overboard. Aegis was just doing what he thought it was a right thing to do, which is follow the rules. Nuno on the other hand thought Powerpoint isnt a bad guy, so he wanted to be a good guy and warn him first. It's just Powerpoint's fault that he didn't read rules, like it can't be more interesting to spectate when you die than it is to read the main rules.

Overall, I hope to see Powerpoint again in the future, we all make mistakes.

First of all you were locked out because you didn't answer the question, just gave your opinion. Second of all, this is just a reflection of how Aegis handles situations. The guy broke the rules and Aegis banned him. Is it harsh? Yes. Is it how I would have handled the situation? Honestly? Probably. When it comes to RDM I can understand ignorance of the rules. Not every player is going to know the exact details of how that stuff works, but when it comes to things like gore? Aegis has a point when he says:

    &
They are good points, and shouldn't be ignored. Having a gore spray is something that most of us can agree is something you can't really do by accident. From what was described in the thread this was a pretty blatant example. Of course, if it came out that it wasn't really gore, then i'd be on your side completely.

I would have to agree that it was a bit of a dick move to ban. I have not seen the spray myself, but I'm sure it couldn't have been that bad based on the description.

It's like getting pulled over and the cop finding weed in your car. If you have a small amount, the cop just gives you a ticket and sets you on your way. But if you have a lot, then you just go to jail :L

    nothing personal @Aegis

While I'm waiting for a response else where on a few things, I'd argue that the spray is arguably mild gore at best with the current implementation and contraindications in the rulesets:

I've bolded with a heart can be construed as such a violation. I get the rule is to in place to keep people from posting feces, vomit, gun shot wounds, etc as their spray and agree that i shouldn't have to witness that. But considering clearly artistic interpretations of mild blood and a human organ imagery is really dumb to me when other artistic interpretations are allowed (the game literally puts blood splatters on the wall, lmao).

Like look, he's an artistic interpretation of a demon mutilating a corpse that's allowed. I just think it's dumb where leniency isn't being encouraged here simply because Aegis is allowed to be a dickhead by the rules if he wants to be.

Also how is this allowed as a forum profile pic? Worse than the gore used by powerpoint.

@wink It has nothing to do with ego or anything else. It's just the way I see my duty as a moderator.
When I first joined this server I forced myself to follow the rules and took pleasure from playing the actual game rather than just having fun by testing the limits of the rules with questionable sprays.
If being a dickhead would be having convictions when taking a decision, well, I guess I am one. I banned people that I enjoyed playing with, applying the same process. To me, nobody is above the rules, not even staff members. That is my interpretation of acting for the community, because the community is not only one player. The rules are here to protect players (from disturbing sprays for example) and to allow people to have a good Serious Garry's Mod experience.
If your last argument is, in a first time to compare images that have been allowed by other staff members, and in second time to denounce other players, you are simply ignoring what Pacifist said. If I were treat these cases on the server, the first one would be tolerated to me. What was ambiguous about PowerPoint's spray was that realistic feel from it. I do not deny the artistic aspect though. I remember that someone sent me and message when I was banning him about feeling nauseous from it, which I totally understand. For the second image, it is a profile picture. Which implies that a person sensible to gorish stuff has to open steam community's profile to actually realize what it represents, so the player has tasks to do to get disturbed. But let's say it is the case. If I were to receive a complaint, my action here would be to send him a warning. If refused or trying to argument, I'd ask admin discretion for a punishment. As you can see, I always try to nuance the cases. And again, if I'm a dickhead for doing so, so be it.

@Pokeben10 So you haven't seen the spray but have an opinion of me doing a dick move based off a description from someone defending the antithesis. Allow me to nuance your argument about the weed stuff. Taking a decision based off the quantity to me sounds right (depends on the legislation in your country or state of course but let's say it's illegal and penalized) because there are two factors to consider, it is for yourself or aimed to be sold. The only thing your can trust here is the quantity. I'm not saying it's better if the guy only wants to vape and you can only trust him to a certain degree, I'm just saying it's less worse. Anyway, this example is inacurate to me, because the result of the cop judment would have way more consequences for the real life of this guy, as opposed as our case here where he is simply ban from a server for 14 days. Nobody will die from it, nobody's life is ruined. He will simply have time to read the extended rules and learn from it.

Sorry if there are mistakes, I had to kind of rush the answers since it was my lunch break but you have here a general idea of how I think when I'm doing my job.

First of all, leave poor Makuzi alone. Granted, I know what you are saying. Artistic representations of gore are really touch and go when it comes to our rules. Some things are okay and others aren't. We have to rely on our discretion a lot in those instances. I'm going to go ask Aegis if he is a screenshot of the original spray. I'd like to determine where the line is with gore. In my mind it is whether or not it is real, or if it is real enough to be gross or disturbing. I am curious if that is what you guys think as well?

I believe the initial purpose of the blood and gore rule was to keep people from posting images of dead or mutilated corpses or body parts. Graphic depictions such as drawings or art, could also fall into the same realm.

I don't think that if a player was warned to change their spray or even told not to use it and they complied that they should still receive a ban for such a thing. It's a big middle finger to a player that seems to be the kind of person that could belong in the community. However, if I complied to avoid punishment and still got banned, I would be less likely to return.

aegis it’s a super dick move to ban when they are complying for a warning lol. seriously what type of attitude are we trynna show towards players here? it shouldn’t be “fuck you I can ban you so I’m doing it”, which gives off a huge vibe that you aren’t here to moderate(which is your job), you’re here to punish.

Honestly, if Nuno warned him already and he was perceivably in the process of changing the spray, going for the ban was well, quite unnecessary in my opinion. Yes he's in violation of the rules, and even though I didn't see the spray, I can say that Aegis was in his right to ban him.
But, being neutral, I feel that's just a bit much, and is a discouragement to players. Personally I have had a similar situation to this, and it discouraged me from returning to the server, let alone supporting or donating it.

Think of it this way, a police officer pulls you over for a broken brake light, and warns you, and you go on your way to get it fixed. But another cop then pulls you over, and instead of hearing the reason or bothering to check to see if you received a warning, he just gives you a $200 ticket for a broken brake light.

It's unfair, personally I feel Aegis should have checked to see if he changed the spray, I'm not sure if this server has a command that lets you check sprays.

But I'm just a pixel on a screens

It’s a forum profile picture. If it’s good enough for the forums, it’s good enough for the servers, the whole “tasks to get disturbed thing” only works when its a link on their steam profile of a non moderator. That said, you shouldn’t be warning for that picture either even if my feelings hurt, lmao some of the base garrys mod models are worse.

There's just so much stuff to read about this situation that at one point I just gave up so I'm just going to ask: Did Nuno tell Aegis they warned the guy for the spray?

I ask that because Aegis followed the protocol correctly, though I don't agree with how it was used since it was apparently a spray that was borderline and I'd ask an admin before banning. But if Nuno already had dealt with the situation and didn't tell Aegis then there's a problem with both mods.

I'm sorry for not having all the information and wanting to make such question, but when it's given in the form of a gigantic block of text it just makes my eyes tired.

From what I gathered from what Aegis responded, Nuno had not told Aegis that the spray was warned for. A lot of people seem to be missing that Aegis had no idea that the warning was given. I think both mods already understand that communication was lacking in the situation.
