RDM without staff on

Forum reporting does not fix immediate gameplay when theres 30+ people online at 2AM and theres no staff. To make a forum report would result in needing to wait 8+ hours before any action is taken; by then the rdmers would be long gone, to likely never return to the server anyway

What do we do when someone, or a group of people, are rdming every round and making sure they aren't karma banned? I am an advocate of street justice, fight rdm with rdm, but since I was banned for doing that thanks to AspiringSun taking a screenshot of my kos on the group rdmers (and the staff never believe my side of the story even if i have witnesses; we all know why.)

So, what is to be done? What solution is there?

edit: same shills rating my genuinely intended to be helpful post 'dumb' as usual, guessing imma come back to 33+ "alerts" from the same people when i get back from work

but it doesnt have to be that way, you guys just outright refuse to edit the rules or add new things to fix this. lets come up with a solution that we can all agree with

If we lived in a perfect world, the solution would be to hire more staff available at that time to fill in.

Sadly this isn't really possible with how small the community's gotten and trust me even in the past there was always attempts to try fix this problem, people either never followed it/basically no interest.

But how do we FIX That? There has to be a way, like some kind of new Trusted rank with very limited power, giving Trial mods the same power as the trusted.

See, not everyone WANTS to be a mod, but they wanna help. Trial mods wanna be mods, but a Trusted would never have to ascend to moderation, they could just Help out by handling smaller things like gags and mutes, while staff can concentrate their attention on reports

That's something the Lead Admins/Highwon would have to discuss, I mean it would be a good start and personally I always thought that ex-staff or regular players that were trusted or whatever should be given some small control over the things you mentioned.

I dunno, the forum report system is just too inefficient. Even if you get someone that handles them 24/7 that person will eventually burn out and then it's back to how it was, a new system would definitely help.

Not much can be done. What are you gonna do?
    1. Let reports stay for more than just the current/ next map
    - No staff member wants to come on and see 500 reports and waste 20 minutes giving tons of people slays, THAT would probably piss some people off.
    2. Hire more staff
    - Well, with the server dying out from the announcement, and more and more staff slowly leaving and/ or doing dumb things to get banned, not too easy. Even if they do start getting more, nothing guarantees they will play at 4 in the morning to deal with RDMers at the time.
    3. Have trusted users that can have actions
    - Same as above. You can have as many as you want, but there will still be times where there will be no one on with any power and the problem still wont be fixed.

Not really sure there is much that can be done. Yeah the forums suck as a way to report people since they take forever to actually be dealt with, it's inefficient as hell, but it's kinda the only thing it seems that works.

I think Trials should at least get more power, like yeah you can pull the BS card that they are "still learning" or "can't be trusted" but.. So what?? It doesn't take much to learn how to use a kick command and know when to use it.
And with the can't be trusted part.. Lmao how many mods-admins-leads have leaked staff info at this point?

Need some way to deal with the dumbasses that rdm every single round, but not really sure if there is thaat much that can be done. Trusted rank would be an interesting thing to try, it may help a bit since the same users are usually on late at night.

Anything will help at this point honestly lmao. It gets crazy at night, from hearing the N word being screamed into a mic 20 times a minute by some squeaker, to someone just flat out RDMing people in a way that the karma doesn't catch up fast enough to ban them.

This is not an easy fix, unfortunately. But if you have any ideas, please share them.

One obvious solution would be to just buff up the staff team more.
The problem is - not too many people want to be staff at the moment. Gmod is no where near as popular as it once was.
Our community mainly consists of regulars, a few lurkers and some occasional newcomers. Most people that want to be staff already are staff.
A way to get around this would be to significantly lower the entry barrier into the team. Like getting rid of the hour requirement, more lenient staff rules/guidelines, etc.
Yea, it may get some more people on the team, but if our only solution is to go for more quantity, I don't think that's a good idea.

One thing I've been thinking about and that's been discussed with a few people in the past is something that could really make a difference if implemented correctly.
But unfortunately, it's not super realistic, or at least I can't realistically say that I can see it happening anytime soon.
What would be amazing is some sort of a webinterface for the RDM manager that allows staff to do their job without actually being on gmod the whole time.
It would allow staff to check in from anywhere using a mobile connection, or staff when they otherwise wouldn't be able to.
However, this would have to be carefully planned as there are some potential dangers to this idea.
Also - it would need to be fully custom-made. The planning, coding and execution would require a lot of time and probably a team of devs.

It's really more of a nice thought than an actual solution right now, but I thought I'd put it out there anyways.
If anyone wants to build on this idea and potentially has an interest to actually make this happen some day, hmu. (y)

this is pretty much what PT mods were, none of them staffed more than like 2 hours biweekly

I mean, the staff are already getting minimum hours if even that, if you remove the requirement you'd just have staff who don't staff.

2 hours? no that was what they did in a month, smh

yeah because someone wanting to come on to have fun and a chill time would love to be greeted with 200 reports from the last 20 maps, all while more reports are being made and being piled up on them, and then they have to worry about people micspamming and other dumb shit. Then you'll start having staff members that come on, see the mass amount of reports, and then leave and let someone else deal with it.

if you leave because there's too much reports, you're shit staff.

if ya wanna just chill, don't apply for staff, simple. and if you do want to chill, just deal with the reports first, get rid of the main rule breakers and it'll calm down eventually. It won't get better if you just go in and look "oh too many reports, better leave lol".

like I said before, they shouldn't be staff. Staffing is meant to take priority over playing the game. Also if you actually leave due to the number of reports, just leave the staff team no need to waste a good spot for a lazy staff member.
    EDIT: Timo sniped me :(

The problem was that they used PTmods that were not even playing anymore or just wanted to play other games at that time. If there are people out there (Like myself) who left due to not reaching that 15h requirement but feeling rip to leave, it will be a easy solution.

There was 1 PTmod who reached a good amount of hours as they downgraded from mod to PTmod.

@Tedelicious, if I can recall one of the people that voluntarily downgraded was me and I pretty much stopped playing the game shortly after so uhh, who? xD

So yeah, at the time I was thinking of resigning and thought the PTMod idea would work, I pretty much kept it at 2 hours and then was too burnt out to even join again.

I mean you kinda need an hour requirement to keep people to join and moderate, but after a year it kinda becomes stale (Doesn't help that the community got little updates sadly)

Hongo brought up something about a role that isn't a bad idea at all but @Saturnity and @Snowy Cowcakes❄ are also right, it will probably just turn into PMod v2.

You could possibly adjust something with the RDM Manager to "save" excessive reports on someone when no Staff are online, the staff could then try reviewing what happened. Regular players (with x amount of hours logged) could also file a special report that saves a scenario in which they belive toxic gameplay or something occured. This would probably require some Dev work and welp... where is this heading to bros xD

If you were to personally ask me as an ex-staff member, I'd love to help this place, even seeing it in such a sad state as of now, but I don't have as much time anymore and honestly still burnt out, you could probably say the same for many ex-staff but if a spot where to open with little need to constantly be active, I'd probably help but that's kinda useless so yeah :/ There's some solution that could be found but with the way things are looking what other options are there really?
