maybe, since our higher up staff are so absent, SGM should start taking in more mod applications, to allow experienced and seasoned staff to move to higher positions. We need a dev still, we don't have enough new admins, ect. I feel like the staff team could use some new opinions within the ranks, particularly among the admins, instead of it being it's usual Inner Circle of the same few, who dictate the outcome of most things with more or less the same outcome due to their ... similarities.
Unfortunately I don't see this role being filled any time soon. As much as I'd love to see new content put out on the server, I don't think Highwon is in the trusting mood for it
Another thing is moderators have to have an admin as a supervisor, with a lack of admins, there will inevitably be a lack of mods.
I've been looking at getting some new admins. I had originally planned to get 3 new admins back when I promoted paci, which would have filled all open slots at the time. But for a variety of reasons, I had to settle for just him for the time being. The plans to get some new admins haven't changed tho and I hope we can make that happen within the next weeks. I'll be discussing the candidates I've considered so far with paci, since we both have 2 open slots right now. As for the dev position, that's not as easy unfortunately. We've never had that many devs. And it's not as easy to fill the position as you might think. Giving someone access to the backend and code is something that needs to be very well considered. I was planning on finding a way to fix the lack of devs we have. The first step in that plan was for Pixel to take on some more responsibilities. He was willing to do more, and with Highwons approval, I planned on involving him more. As the first new project, we've been working on developing a completely new discord bot to replace Opalbot (Credit for the coding goes to Pixel). But as you're probably aware, things didn't go as planned and that ended up being a dead end. The compromise we made when cancelling the shutdown was to go back to a more old school version of SGM, meaning fewer servers, rollbacks, more stable server environment and simplified rules. After that was done, the plan was to sort of leave it at that for the time being. We would provide fixes if necessary and possibly occasional small content updates like maps, sounds, etc. So yea, we don't have any devs aside from Highwon right now. And he's still busy with re-integrating some of the content and fixes that were removed with the rollbacks. But that's a part of the compromise that lead to us not shutting down. I'm not saying that this is necessarily the only option moving forward and that things won't change, but it's where we're at right now.
The rules severely need simplification. They are, currently, the most limiting factor this server faces. Particularly the fact that our already massive list of rules requires an entirely other set of equally large 'extended' rules. That's just nonsense, and I feel it makes staffing much, much harder than it needs to be. Usage of the in-game report chat would nullify the need for most of those rules, since we could just allow two people to talk and explain what happened instead of needing to go deep into the books.
No. Have you taken into consideration that he might have other responsibilities in real life outside of this community? I mean seriously, he might have a job or something that is taking up most if not all of his time which is why he isn't active. He hasn't made any new posts yet though, I mean the last post he made was in regards to leaks if I remember correctly. We especially need ones that are available at night because that's when a lot of shit tends to go down.
I've talked about it before; if people are too busy to be around, then offer up the position to someone else. That's literally how businesses work, people don't freeze their assets when the president of a company has to leave. That's called stagnation. It's not even a 'bad suggestion' its business 101.
Yea, the rules are not ideal right now. It's something that's on my to-do list aswell. I've gone over a few things with the staff/admins already, and some of our mods actually took the time to completely re-write the rules in an effort to fix the flaws in the current ruling. It's something I want to possibly integrate some of these suggestions, but it takes time to review this. Our current rules are a compromise between the old and complicated rules, and the original rules, which were a lot simpler. Some people prefer detailed rules, some prefer simpler ones. Finding a version both sides are happy with isn't easy. Due to that, they aren't ideal yet, I agree. But improving them is more of a process. It takes time. As for using the chat more, I'm all for that. I think a lot of problems can be solved that way. You may be surprised to hear that if you're in favor of simpler rules or getting rid of the extended rules entirely, the red man himself agrees with you: And regarding giving ownership to someone else: This has been brought up many times. You can read a bit more about that here.
I'm sorry. To me it looked as if you were inferring that you yourself either to be the owner, an admin, or a mod.
I mean the problem is that he’s been betrayed so many times, it’s hard to choose someone to give all that power to you know? And not many people code in LUA, although it is an easy language to learn. To give someone that power isn’t such a simple task.
