Rejected Give back the previous report respond lenght?

    Please take away the answer limit :c

    for common sense kills or kills that rquire explaining you cant type out more than 3 lines of text

    I had to delete like 4 lines of text from this response before it was accepted

    Your response easily could have been shortened. All that was really needed there was "I witnessed herensica walk into the T room and shortly after a gunfight started, then you IDed the body, proving you were inside the T room." Anything else was unnecessary - it's not your job to explain the rules in your report response, you're just giving your side of the story.

    I don't think a response limit is a good idea though. Sometimes there will be situations that have to be wordy, even if they're uncommon, and it's easier to put them in one place rather than continually PM a staff member about it.

    The idea of a limit doesn't really make sense at all. Maybe the idea is to save staff time by having concise report responses? Even then, it only takes a few extra seconds to read the unrelated stuff in reports.

    90% of the info you wrote in there doesn’t need to be in there in there anyways. o.o

    The limit was created to stop an exploit that caused staff’s clients crash whenever they opened the report. Just be more concise and stop backseat moderating. Add more info using @msg if you need too

    I'd rather make a proper respond to their report, than give a short answer like a jackass without explaining, owh and ever since I started explaining the rules as to why it wasnt RDM, the people stopped screaming in chat that it was still RDM, slay him etc.

    Besides the staff themself says they dont have to listen to additionaly info other than what they have recieved in response.

    Now having to pm staff the additional information, makes it so they have to wait for you to add more to a respond and leave them waiting. Especially if multiple people have to do that at the same time, then it will take more time to put every peice together.
    Compared to before where you had a full response to go through and act upon. No extra waiting. No chance of getting confused by multiple people pming you part of their response.

    And the example I gave was on a shortly explained common sense kill, longer ones are going to be a nightmare o.o

    The other day Noob had to wait for 2 whole rounds because of a common sense kill I had to explain

    The answer limit forces you to be more concise with your report responses. You say why you damaged/killed someone and that's pretty much it. As shown, your response could've been a single sentence long. We don't want to spend ages reading a novel about the kill and the rules.

    That isn't a proper response though. You're doing the motd/extended rules job or staff's job and making it your own. Staff doesn't need that info. We have a !p system, and an in-game chat system, use that if you want.

    You completely ignored why I said the limit's there in the first place though.. This is a fix to keep people from abusing that glitch. There are pro's to cons to every scenario, and the minor inconvenience of adding additional information using an @ msg is a lesser con than crashing the staff member to where you don’t even have a staff to handle the report you’re complaint complaining about.

    Gotta say that with that report response you could have shortened it to something like, "ID'd body while inside T room. I saw that person go inside and not come out."

    Any further explanation could he given in admin chat.

    Staff don't want to read a paragraph, we want a quick response so we can quickly determine that the report is either rdm or not. While you only have to respond to one or two reports, staff often times have to check 5 or so reports in a single round. So when you type out these long winded responses you are actually acting more like an asshole than if you just put unided. You can simply your response to just be "You were in the T room and that is a traitorous act. :)" and that would have sufficed.

    I'm against this for two reasons: 1. The exploit and 2. This would just make staff's life harder than it has to be.

    +1 Although I've only run into this issue once before, I believe that in some rare situations, this would be very helpful. It's not the biggest issue but as it is such a small thing to change, I don't see why this shouldn't be added.

    I'm just going to -1 this right off the bat. It doesn't make sense why you need that much room to type up your response to a report. Like yes I get it you want to explain yourself in detail as much as possible. But in all honesty, it is unnecessary. Like get down to the basics: "You were next to an unid'd body.", "You had a T weapon out.", "You were GBA, because of......", or even "You were KOS'd".     Honestly, if staff need more information from a report, they will either:
    1. Open up a chat with you, the victim/attacker, and themselves (the staff member)
    2. PM you using the psay command.
    Staff may not need that additional information, because they have enough information already. If they think it is enough information, they will just leave as is. If you want to add something to your case, talk to them in admin chat. Yes, it may take a while, but staff have a lot more going on then just reports and you pming them about your very own report. They have to take care of everyone in the server. It can be difficult sometimes, so you may not get a response right away, but you just gotta be patient dude.

    Instead of getting rid of the limit, maybe increase it? There was a whole long thread a few weeks ago about staff repeatedly stating they shouldn't have to go outside your report response to finish a report. Though it won't happen often there will be those cases where it takes more than a sentence to answer the report, rare occurrences doesn't mean we should ignore it.

    Also i'd hate to just reply "He was in the t room so I kosed him" then to be slain for reason "You couldn't have seen him go in as you were on the other side of the map" to then start a back and forth with the staff member until its resolved. Realistically this only applies to common sense skills since those are the only ones that require detailed explanations.

    Helix is the only one with a good reason as to why it shouldn't be unlimited. "I don't want to read an essay" is not a good reason, unless you're a two year old it will take you 2-5 seconds to read the extra words.


    So basically, if the word limit can be increased i'm for it. Unlimited is a no due to the reasons Helix mentioned.

    I mulled this over a bit in my head, and I agree slightly to a raised limit.

    There's merit to having more characters, but remember that reports are meant to be a concise defense of your actions.
    Not essays on the rules with a ton of fluff o.o

    If you remove the fluff and the rules, you will have a lot of extra characters to use for important information.
    If someone is displeased with the verdict on a report, the staff are there to deal with it. People won't always agree with you, even if you explain the rule perfectly to the letter. And I don't really mind you helping others out in that regard... but if you need more space, cut the rule explanations.

    I've never, common sense or otherwise, found myself hitting a/the character limit. If it helps you, 50/100 characters more, sure, that's about 10/20 words extra on average.
    But if you cut out pointless and excessive information, you already have plenty of characters in my experience.

    Maybe we can add a character counter if possible so people can see how much room they still have to type it out.

    So we make it less stressfull of counting the characters by hand to use the total characters available

    I can see the staff's response to someone trying to send the rest of the info through adminchat "I did not accept your second response as it seemed as if you were trying to get out of a slay"

    The limit was placed to patch an exploit that could break the RDM manager. I can probably increase it by a little bit (perhaps a hundred more characters, should still be within the safe margin), but it has to remain limited.

    As the others said, you can always message the staff and tell them you have more information if necessary (ask them to start a chat with you and the victim, it's easier to follow than just PMs). Or, just shorten your response. The example you gave could have easily been shortened to fit within the limit.
