Rejected Allow [serious] threads where staff will remove / warn off topic replies

I think more on the lines how Reddit does, for different discussions.

Off topic replies already aren't allowed. Admittedly, staff do a poor job of actually enforcing this rule, but most of the time something will happen if you actually report the offending post. No need for any extra additions.

This. Subjectively, it is a good idea that makes a lot of sense, but, big picture, it would make a lot of work, besides being a little grabby: "Hey staff, check this thread before anything else, because I really don't want any sh*tposts here, and it's that important."

Also, little superfluous, don't you think? I mean, who does want their thread derailed anyway?

Looks like Texas' post got removed; never knew he committed to the dark side that fully, lol.

 

I’m going to deny this suggestion after some recent discussion about the post that Xpro linked above.

Han and Doc’s posts pretty well sum it up, but some of the largest problems here is that at times, it can be pretty subjective on what’s considered off-topic/on-topic and implementing this idea is adding fuel to the fire to too many debates over what is considered to be truly violating this or not, versus what is just a dumb suggestion.

That being said— we do already enforce a light version of this in a lot of threads on a case by case basis. If you see a post that you think is already just shitposting/off-topic in a serious discussion thread- feel free to report it and an admin will take a look at it to see if any action needs to be taken.
