Anyone have an opinion of Ready Player One? The advertising was big but the movie looks like it has the potential to hella suck.

I'm not sure how the movie is for someone who hasn't read the book, but it sucked to me. Not as bad as Ender's Game sucked compared to the book, but it's up there.

I loved it. Proof that there is still good material for movies out there. Steven Spielberg does not disappoint.I'd love to say more but then I'd be spoiling it. If you're not interested in sci-fi don't even bother with it though.

Watching a movie with an expectation beforehand will ruin the movie for you. I have read Ender's Game and the books and I thought the movie was great.

Anyone else excited about Tarantino's next film, "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" ?

Considering the cast and the plot, it should be damn near perfect. And on the plus side about 2 years ago Tarantino stated he's retiring after his next 2 films. So he's gonna put his all into them.

Idk if excited is the right word. I havent searched to much of it. I just hope its not some over dramatic campy version of the real story(campy might actually b really good haha), but who knows, he did great at alternate history before I just really dont wanna see manson as hero or antihero.
Which reminds me how good Red State was, would love to see Tarantino explore a new genre in his style like Kevin Smith did here. Im hoping for the best tho.

It's not that I really had an expectation beforehand though(not a conscious one). I feel like even had I not previously read the book it still would have come across as a bad / boring / low effort movie. I think it was watching the trailers for the movie that did it for me, over-hyping it to me but not delivering.

As for Ender's Game, I feel like I may have able to enjoy it had I not read the book previously. But due to knowing the full extent of the rich universe behind it (I had read all the books, ALL the books 2 times prior to watching) every single issue and inconsistency was glaringly obvious. Not with the movie's adherence to the storyline (which was, also pretty poor) of the book, but with the inconsistency with the universe itself. The Ender's Game movie felt like a movie "based on the idea of Ender's Game" but set in a different universe altogether. Like one of those "based on a true story" movies that doesn't hold any similarity to the actual story, except in this case it's "based on the books". I don't know, ultimately every choice in the movie just screamed "we're not planning on having a sequel".

Any film buffs should really check out Tarkovsky’s work.

Stalker, Solaris (1972 version not the remake) and Mirror notably.

I didn’t read the books, but I’ve watched the movie a few times. Was fairly corny imo because he was In space and all, and it had bad acting in my opinion. Personally, I wouldn’t recommend

However, I know others liked it

New topic; has anyone seen Incredibles 2? It was great - Go out and watch it asap

Finally, is Deadpool 2 worth it? I watched the first and enjoyed it but most of the time the sequel to any movie is really bad

It's very difficult to make a movie/tv show that's adapted from the book. Every Director wants to have their own input into the script otherwise they won't be invested into the production of the movie. Ender's Game would have been better as a TV show, but it would be too much of a risk because it would need a higher budget and TV makes less money than movies. I don't think Speaker for the Dead would have made a good sequel and would potentially confuse the non-book readers and the direct sequel, Ender in Exile, would be too boring for a movie. I don't think the Producers/Directors intended to have a sequel when they began development for the film.

Movies like Harry Potter and TV shows like Game of Thrones weren't 100% true to their source material, had some moments that made book readers annoyed, but still enjoyable to watch.

I am really excited to for any movie coming out with Joaquin Pheonix. Joaquin is one of the best actors in Hollywood today.

The director behind this movie won the Palme d'Or in 2015 for Dheepan so I don't doubt it's going to be good.

Want to see this one too, looks really good.

I think the main issue to me as well is that the actors were too old compared to what the book portrayed. But yeah, I can agree with them not intending to have a sequel when they started, that was the impression I got. Though I could see the new prequel books as making nice condensed movie material, I'd rather get original content instead of regurgitated books.

Anybody here seen The Witch? I watched it the other day and wondered whether or not that was really Anya Taylor-Joy in the nude at the end. I haven't found a reputable source that states that that wasn't really her.
