I know I am new to the Minecraft server and have not put an ungodly amount of time into it like Law has, but I would like to chime in my 2 cents as I have put in thousands of hours into minecraft and dozens of servers.

There is no denying that a player never wants to lose what they have put into a save or a build or their vast wealth for that point. I belive a server reset would entice new players to join and bring back some old players, but here is the thing. Vanilla minecraft is so well known and so easy to get OP in that some players lose interest rather quickly, i can talk smack about my ability to beat diekasta all i want but the reality of it is that he more then likely has multipile sets of god armor and can just come back and pummel me into the ground.

If the server were to be reset I would suggest modded minecraft. Modpacks like Tinkers Construct, Draconic evolution, applied energistics, the aether, twilight forest. Mods that are amazing and still evolving just like minecraft its self. Adding a new learning curve is reason for a lot of players to be wanting a reset, vanilla just does not offer that.

If this idea were to have any weight and support there are several ways to go about this.
1. Open a new server seperatly allowing a vanilla server and a modded server.
2. Close the Vanilla server but keep the save in case this idea bombs allowing a chance to revert if need be.
3. Send players who want the save the file so they can add it to their .minecraft folder so they will always have their save. This can be done via drop box.

In conclusion, the minecraft server has turned into a meme, the server is dead but for a dozen players, new players are not going to want to join a server which has only god tier players on it. Few are up to the challenge of working towards that god status with the fear of players like diekasta hopping on who can simply one-tap them with their immence mcmmo skill.

I'm personally at the point where I think a modded server would be a lot of fun, and I'd be okay even if it is a second server- although I'm not sure if we have the support for that at the moment.

I think some of the issues may be advertising as well. I've suggested in the past that the MC servers and TTT servers should be cross-advertised with each other and I don't know if SGM has done paid advertising in the past but I would personally donate to the cause if that's a possibility.

The reason many of us have acquired "ungodly amounts of resources" is because we actually play the damn game! I've put 400+ hours into the world, and under no conditions would I want all those hours of work erased just because I put in more time and effort than others. People got rich because they spent the time figuring out the best ways of making money, and played countless hours to get the vast number of resources they have.

I'd like to recant my statement in which I vocalized opposition to a server reset. My perspective has shifted, and I believe that a complete server overhaul is necessary to bring about "server saving" changes to create a sustainable playerbase. I would state my reasoning for this changing viewpoint, but I think the dwindling player population and forum discussion speaks for itself.

It sure would need to create a sustainable playerbase, as the current (albeit unsustainable) playerbase would dwindle even more than it already has.
