I can sympathize, but my argument would simply be that this is a part of the game and the learning curve. Players who get killed will learn how to better be equipped to deal with such circumstances in the future.

And I want to dispose of your stereotype that staff are only responding in accordance to their own selfish desires. As a mod, I will not be engaging in PVP, as I do not think that will reflect well upon me and those who gave me this position. I did, however, originally join this server with full intent to PVP as that's what I enjoy most in the game, which is why I sympathize with those who desire to PVP on the server. Disabling PVP in claims will drastically inhibit those who desire to engage in it due to the fact that players are most often within their claims.

    Regards.

I understand, but there still needs to be some sort of alternative in place, so people who don't like PVP can still have an experience that isn't ruled by fear. The 'Get good' mentality reduces our player base and community.

And I don't think mods shouldn't PVP. It is an aspect of the game, and a fun one if done right. What I don't approve of is the shared mentality of many of the mods, who's replies to problems and complaints players face is primarily "If something bad happen to you, it's your own fault" or some variation thereof. I apologize for repeating myself so much, but very few people seem to read the entire thread, just what catches their eye. The only time I ever said that PVP should be disabled on claims was for a stop-gap measure until a more proper and permanent solution could be reached. I apologize for generalizing the staff as a whole, but when at least 70% of the are constantly saying there is no problem, there is no solution, or that people complaining should just be grateful for what they have, and then I get blamed for all their negativity as well as my own? That bothers me.

I believe my suggestion, which is currently the most accepted (I think?) covers this. Also, just FYI- to note- I am for all-around PvP, but support my ideas below based on what other players want.

PvP for all players at night. Claim or no claim.
During the day, PvP is optional with the /pvptoggle.
10-15 minute timer after death. Either can't attack until timer is over, or first attack stops cooldown, but also doesn't do any damage/effect.

I do like the idea, but I would still like some way to get an all-day effect, if only for people who want to make community villages or markets

I think Helix's concept is what we're likely going to end up going with. I understand some people don't like pvp at all, but we will have to compromise.

Can the solution be slightly changed so that the pvp toggle only takes affect inside of claims, this way players still have to have some form of caution during the day.

The only problem with that is completely passive players wouldn't have any opportunity to get their work done, and we'd have some issues with claim abuse

I disagree. There should be a safe period outside for exploration and such. Considering you guys like to base camp anyways, I know this change is really going to ruin your fun.
I feel so bad for you guys ;)

Is all the sarcasm really necessary? Seriously, you guys need to tone it down a notch or three.

Since we can't help ourselves from fighting apparently, thread locked.

EDIT: Perhaps that was a bit reactionary. Thread unlocked- but I would like to post a reminder to keep the discussion on topic.

Players should not be allowed to be completely passive. They, by definition of Pvp and survival, should not be allowed to "Opt-out". It defeats the entire point of PvP in the first place. You have means available to establish yourself as safe, be it through making friendships, taking precautions, or a wide variety of other solutions. I believe a large amount of us are willing to give in to the pvp in claims only at night rule as well to even further the potential enjoyment of everyone. There is no need to restrict anything further for the players than that in my opinion, since you should still be able to be killed in your home if you don't defend yourself well enough. Just my 2 cents.

Personally I am not a fan of the only at night and toggle effect, I think this doesn't solve the main problem. So with the toggle effect, most people will just turn it off and never turn it back on which just makes PvP impossible because you have to find those few that have it on, which will just cause spawn camping imo because they are the only ones that can fight, whats the point? just disable PvP than. (not what I want)

Now, here is my idea, we are all nerdo's here obviously and im assuming ALOT of us have play WoW yes? Ok now how many of you know how PvP works in a PvE server?

Let me break this down for anyone that doesn't know <3 So how it works is PvP zones its free game, everyone in that zone is PvP active, when you return to a PvE zone you get a cool down effect placed on you I believe its 5 minutes in WoW that basically keeps you PvP active and then toggles itself off until you leave the PvE zone or YOU attack a PvP player or you toggle it on yourself. Make sense?

So, my idea is that we make PvE zones = claims. PvP is outside your claim, its free game, so basically how it was originally. HOWEVER we add a cool down effect, when you reenter a claim you are put on a 15 minute cool down before you leave PvP so after 15 minutes in a claim you are PvP free. Now I also want to address the people setting claims up at others and shooting them with arrows while remaining safe in a claim, if its possible we can also make this like WoW, so if say I hit someone whilst in a claim, I automatically toggle the PvP on myself, which doesn't go away until I stop PvPing for 15 minutes but remain in a claim. Does that make sense? I can try to explain it better if need be. Id also add if possible we make TP's of any kind toggle the PvP state. So say I tp from Lego's claim into my claim it toggles it because I tp'd, this way people cant tp into their little camp claims without entering PvP and if they are just sitting there waiting for hours the moment they attack they are also PvP toggled. Make sense?

Honestly, I'm a fan of current system that we are using. Let the mods deal with the players that abuse and spawncamp helpless individuals.

The way claims are currently set, it's quite easy to keep yourself protected just by using tools that are actually given to you by the game itself. I've gotten into the habit of checking my surroundings when I leave the safety of my house and I always make sure to have some sort of gear on me so I'm able to react to anyone that wants to jump me. At the end of the day, this server is advertised as a PvP survival server. Your priority should be to gear up and protect yourself first, then go about creating whatever you feel like creating after.

My favorite thing about this server is always having to be on my toes when I'm working outside. Well that and going full rampage when I decide to go on the offensive.

Yeah, I'm still only a fan of the non-toggle 10-15 minute safe spawn period that will be disabled when you attack another player. It has the least impact on the current setup and keeps the core PVP aspects to the game mode.

Unless you want to copy the PVP world and make a peaceful world too, then that's my opinion of it all.

There is still an amazing sense of distrust in nearly every action anyone does, and it stems from there being absolutely no safe zone other than the spawn and market. It is rapidly becoming a fear-driven community for a multitude of player, which can be fun in moderation, but when you have players that are constantly targeted (Such as myself), it really becomes a war of attrition for everyone to try and steal your stuff.

I dislike when diamond plated dudes who got a sword that can knock me down in one swing that roll up to me and kill me when all i'm doing is building my little peaceful projects...

You have no idea how frustrating that is, rather than go after people who are at the same level as them, they want to come and kill small players who are just starting off. If this continues, the server will never grow popular. Why? Same issue as darkrp honestly. People raid even when they know the player doesn't have anything good. So, you know. It's not a problem that can be entirely fixed with just "NO PVP" because I feel like pvp makes the game for some players, the hard part is finding that middle ground.

WHY NOT JUST HAVE THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS, LITERALLY JUST SET UP A PEACEFUL WORLD! :D

I think this is the best way to do it as it allows people to PVP, but it also prevents them from spawn camping someones base and completely ruining their experience on the server. Also, if you get killed, you then have 15 minutes to then go ham on your base and get as much done as you please, win-kinda win for each side.

I think the main reason you are targeted is because you just say the wrong things to the wrong people. Always calling out my friends for everything they did wrong, even if you were right, just doesn't put you on our good side, and I know that you have done it to other people as well. Unless you are a mod, I believe that it would just be best if you don't call people out in chat, if you can't defend yourself when they come to your base. If you want people to stop targeting you, just try to get on their good side, as you have begun to do with me.
