The adviser rank as I understood it gave well respected former staff the ability to view admin chat and issue basic punishment. The "goal" was to allow those former staff who didn't have the time to fulfill a larger role could still pitch in from time to time. The in-game premise was to allow advisers to "advise" staff in-game if needed (kind of like a trial mod being trained by his admin). From the community perspective, they were also approachable for advise in staff discussions and were trusted to keep certain details need to know. Unfortunately I don't think the initial purpose or thought behind the adviser rank was ever fulfilled by a majority of it's members which is why it is being removed.
