Looping/Planting unIDed Bodies Discussion

Recently I was slain for performing the act I performed in the following video:

I fully accept the slay, as the ruling by an Advisor stated in this thread: http://www.seriousgmod.com/threads/unid-bodies.20237/page-2 is that you can not plant bodies as a detective and kill players who pass the unIDed body.

I feel a discussion is in order. This is a perfectly sound tactic I have been using for several weeks now. I do not always ID bodies as detective unless I know it's a T body with points (generally, as in I usually will ID them). Please discuss.

REMINDER: The video is just a reference, an idea of the discussion. The discussion is whether or not planting bodies as a Detective should be allowed, like in the video. Not putting them next to people purposefully, dropping them directly on someone, etc.

Not IDing bodies does not help the Innos in any way, just gives them an excuse to kill anyone, without having that same repercussion directed back at you as a Detective who is immune to T acts

This would not be a punishable offense if an Inno plants UnIDs or refuses to ID, because anyone can kill that Inno. But for Detectives, it's different

also lol i made that unid bodies thread

I wouldn't mind an explanation as to why it's different for the two roles.

Personally, I believe that there are certain situations that this would be a good tactic for catching Ts and certain situations that it's just loopholing.

    It's a good tactic when:
    1. You're planting it in a spot visible to everyone where they have a chance to identify it and you would clearly see if they ID it or not.

    It's loopholing when:
    1. You're planting it next to a player, then you start shooting at him literally within the next 5 seconds.
    2. You're planting it almost the same time when a player would pass by (just like in the video, he just happened to be a T). In general, I wouldn't like to ID the body first as Ts actually use this tactic (killing innos, while ID-ing the body).
    3. Planting it in places that literally only you know as you planted it. (Under tables, behind loads of identified bodies, other hidden spots, and other similar situations).

P.S. I can see this being used as Detectives AND Innocents, because as an Inno, any form of manipulation of UNIDs will get you killed.

Cause if a innocent does it that innocent who walked past the unided can kill the other innocent for putting unides without iding them, if it's a detective you simply cannot fight back making it unfair as the detective can fire at him and kill him with no consequences or chances of getting hurt.

That is how I viewed the situation. Player intent had everything to do with this, and it came off as a legitimate sting operation, to me. He didn't gun down Amatsu, ( whom he had no idea was coming to begin with ) for approaching the body. He watched patiently for him to turn his character toward the un-ID'd body, and continue on his way, well before making the decision to shoot him. I can't fathom why this is considered loopholing, and not a legitimate investigative tactic, with proper intention backing it.

Thank you for the well thought out and on topic reply.

Please note in response to your 2: not only did I not shoot him immedietly after throwing it, I gave him time to ID it and even go back and ID it while strafing away before shooting at him.

    The rest, I agree with.

You can kill a detective that's shooting you.

And it was not considered loopholing. He was slain because Amatsu barely had any time to ID a body that fell from the sky, so the argument that "he was by an UnIDed body" doesn't cut it

    In the rules it states

Traitorous Acts *DOESNT APPLY TO DETECTIVES
      • Not identifying bodies
With you being a detective this round you didn't have to ID the body and you moved one of the unidentified bodies to the side not knowing that there is another player underneath it and the other player passes by it without identifying the body which in the rules is a traitorous act and can be killed for it. Seems like a good kill to me, but that's just my opinion.

He not only had plenty of time, he left the body there, ignoring it.

Python, re-watch the video. Amatsu turns toward it, and knowingly strides off. He had ample time.

Yeah, that's true. I would simply recommend not to use this tactic as a Detective, as it can be considered loopholing in several cases

As for the slay, I'm still not entirely sure if it was legitimate, but I can see why he had given you one

I think that the slay stems from a pre-existing ruling on the matter, and Nexxus must understand that too. I think this is more about trying to shed light on the validity of the tactic, instead of immediately considering it toxic gameplay/loopholing/etc.

This is exactly the case. I'm not worried about the slay, as stated in the OP. This is about the tactic itself. It should be allowed.

This tactic's intent is within reason of the game-mode itself; finding and killing traitors. I cannot see how reasoned otherwise, unless your intent is to kill teammates through malicious placement of bodies. Although, if the victim didn't see the body to begin with, then no one can act on killing them, based simply off of that.

  18. Amatsu could've easily identified the body.
